Internally it's stock. I dont know if you've ever had one apart but they're actually a really solid built performer.

Before the install I had it apart to do seals etc and compression tested it. I keep good oil and filters too it and have never run over 10PSI through it because you really dont need it.

It makes solid oil pressures, 20inHg of vacuum and pulls nice out to 7800rpm where the limiter has been set. I put a set of adjustable cam gears on and had it dyno'd again to eliminate some of the cam overlap to get the turbo on earlier and at 11.5 AFR's with next to base timing on full boost it makes a really safe 100rwKw @ 7200rpm and a peak 180Nm torque. For a car that came with 47 fly wheel kW???? that's about triple the output after drivetrain loses.

Where I think people go wrong and why some stigma can be attached to boosting the stock internals is the fact that its a 10:1 comp ratio and people run low resolution maps or piggy back chips and go way lean with crazy timing advance (or no timing control at all) to chase extra kW's. Combined with high intake temps because they neglect the value of intercooling and detonation is always on the cards. When my zook was tuned it was a 41 degree day and the intake temps from the cooler barely got above ambient.

IMO you're mad if you sell it, this thing would own the dunes down in the south east. 8)

Probably never get the chance to build another one & you'll shed a tear seeing it go & then again when it gets driven into the ground.

who says it's gunna get driven into the ground? unless you get some lazy person who figures it's all new so nothing has to be replaced for the next 5 years, i suppose that does happen a fair bit though :(

Yeah I'm really glad I went with it in the end. It did cost quite a bit more than my other options like the micro-techs but I think I definitely got the better product. Having higher resolution maps and full timing control has made it easy to tune up safely and more importantly reliable.

An additional cost to the way my zook has ended up is 'research and development'. Originally it had an IHI-RHB5 turbo with ca18 injector's and camira throttle body set up with electronic idle air control. I found the throttle body too big and the ca injector spray pattern caused low idle issues/hunting and it was ultra sensitive in the first couple of % of throttle movement which meant crap car park manners. The IHI only had a 16mm wastegate and after about 6000rpm it would boost creep, hence the external gate I fitted which works magic.

The change to the more efficient TD04L gave me about 20% through the midrange but still comes on at 2500rpm and matched my peak figures so I was stoked with that outcome too, all be it an expensive change of manifold, exhaust + cooler piping and dyno tuning. End result is great for reliability and performance, however it is still auto locked which is the only thing that I think spoils it slightly on the bitumen. Ive never driven it as a daily so I don't get too wrapped round the axles about it but practise makes perfect lol.

It does own the dunes!! :) I'm originally from down the south east and the majority of its trips have been to millicent-robe. I have a mate with a 355 stroked, twin locked, 6" lifted, 35" wheeled 80 series cruiser that cant get where the zook gets.

You're right, I will regret seeing it go, which is why Ive knocked back similar offers from friends to buy it because Id rather not have to potentially see it getting abused.

I never have and never will claim its unbreakable because any clutch dumping, rev limiting peanut will eventually bust any car. However, this might be contentious, but when you learn how capable it can be you realise you can drive it at a point where I'd say its probably nicer to the drive train than is possible with the stock powered engine when negotiating harder sections.........

I try not to think about life without my zook, or 'max' as the mrs calls it lol.

yeah any fool can kill a car, it was just stealth bombing around morgan that day with no one none the wiser until you opened it up. 8O

with some cromo's in the front, RUF'd, air locked front & back it would be "finished".

I like that its capable but street-able without creating unwanted attention.

Yeah you're spot on. Those mods would be my ultimate wish list but with atleast 4k required, when I never found myself needing more was a hard one to justify but I'd like to see it done!! :)

DO NOT SELL MAX!!!! :) :P

You will regret it and always wish you never sold it
I see my old car around and it always brings a tear to my eye

By the sounsd of things you really did your research for the turbo and whoever buys it will be getting a BARGAIN
For the amount of equipment and labour on the car $7K is nothing

Just to give those idiots out there a comparisment.....i sold my bog stock 95 sierra with a fibreglass canopy for $6K
http://www.auszookers.com/index.php?nam ... ic&t=24759
Only think it had was Autotechnica seats in the front, a CD player with 6x9s and a couple of crappy spotties.

If you were in WA id sell my hardtop and buy yours....save myself abit of cash and headaches as im in the process of doing a GTi conversion

You're not the first to say it lol. I've had almost as many PM's telling me its too cheap as I have had inquiry's :)

I'm glad everyone likes what I've done, because the g13/g16 debate is like the ford/holden one that ill NEVER end, so to be getting this feedback does make me sit back a little and consider what I'm potentially letting go of....

If I could leave it in the shed and rego it every 6 months for a trip I would, but that wont work for 2 reasons-

1) I cannot help myself when it comes to spending cash on my zook. I think of something that would be handy, or a way to change something to make it better and I spend countless hours and $$ mucking around.

2) The cash I sell it for would be a welcome boost towards my next purchase, whether I like it or not.

So like I said I wont give it away, Im firm on my price and I think enough people have backed me up on how reasonable it is, however it is probably 25-30% of the purchase cost of my next 4WD covered if I sell it so my priorities have to be that way. :(
