No matter what winch you have or how strong the cradle/bar is, your chassis points are still going to be week. I would look at how your going to attach it to the chassis before you design your cradle/bar

I got a bent Ironman winch bar from a GQ, cut off everything but the inner winch cradle, then welded 5mm plates to the ends which also acted as the mounts, then also ran tube for more strength which also became the brush bars under the headlights.

yeah im planning on building the whole bar similar to DMACs one i posted above, the center bit will be like 2-3mm plate, probs 8mm chassis mounts 5-6mm winch cradle with at least 2 bends or if i can find some channel of the right size, and then tube wings and hoop

does this sound like it will be strong enough for winching?

Mine is 3mm all round, but I did weld a couple of tabs to cross bar that the winch bottom plate mountsdirectly too. So it is held to the Chasis by 4 8mm HT bolts though the chasis rails. (With crush tubes) 2 12mm stainless bolts go through the bottom plate.

I have winched a few Cruisers, Parols and Pajeros with no issues. 12000lb winch.

Just about to start building a winch bar for the LWB this weekend.
