Post subject:  Jimny rear storage options?

Hey guys!
So I am looking at building a small cabinet arrangement for the rear of the Jimny, however I often use the rear seats so would like to retain them in their upright position if possible. I only require a small amount of storage, and was wondering if anyone had tackled this before? Any help / pictures would be great!
Thanks everyone!
Scott.

And some pictures to of the kind of thing I was thinking...
By doing only one half at this stage, it leaves provision for storage of water containers, etc...
The shelves are made to house some standard Target containers, a four Gasmate butane canisters from Bunnings. Fold down front panel becomes bench for food preparation, etc.
Any thoughts or suggestions would be awesome!

And perhaps providing a second larger compartment for baggage etc.

Ive never seen this type of storage system done before in such a small space.

You might find it better to build some sort of fold down table off of the door and have everything else packed well. The only reason I suggest this is cause your adding space filling material to an already space poor area of the car.

Sweet looking designs tho :D

Thanks mate, appreciate it.
Agree with the fact that i am consuming more space than probably neccessary, but I guess I'm a little OCD with things being neat and configured. Haha.
One other thing that lead me to this was the idea of being able to lock it all, so should i need to store anything valuable whilst hiking etc, it would be much more secure locked in here than in the glovebox.
Anyway, will keep posted on how things progress.

Our family of 4 go camping a LOT in our Jimny so this is what I built for my family touring rig.
Everything here fits with the rear seats in place. The cutlery box on top is tied down to 4 eye bolts with turn buckles and only used when camping.
The main frame is solid pine and has a steel sub-frame on the floor that bolts to the 2 factory child seat restraint bolts at the rear door. The drawer fits 2 small eskys from Bunnings (about 20 litres each from memory). We take enough food and drinks for a family of 4 to go bush and be totally self sufficient for 3 to 4 nights with this set up.

No cutlery box.

Table folded up and drawer closed.

The boxes are now carpeted, the drawer and fold down table are oiled.
These drawers stay in everyday, perfect for kids school bags and the top leaves a parcel shelf for little bits and pieces. I would say they actually create more storage space because you have a drawer and a shelf for stuff.

Cheers guys.
These drawers are out of the car now so will grab some pics of the steel sub frame before they go back in the car, it'll probably be a very long time before I take them out again.

I've finally started my own build tread, so keep on eye on it if you like. I will be sure put up some more detail on this storage system in there later.
