Right so lots of talk of they are great, not so much talk of why they are great, somebody want to explain why they are different to Sierra carbs and whats parts make them work better?

Having only ever looked at them when attached to shitbox 4k engines in shitbox corollas ive not paid to much attention to them but seeing they fit the manifold and are the same brand I dont see why they are better short of different jets

-ALOT less vacume lines for one, I noticed a huge increase in low down
Performance and seemed to let the engine rev alot more than what stock one did. I use the zook daily, and really notice the difference along the freeway..

-Has a manual choke, so no more issues with the auto choke in that regard

-Fuel Consumption wise its on par with what the stock carb was getting, about 350k or so to a tank..

-Replacement wise.. they are CHEAP and can be sourced almost anyware...

Hell.. to be REALLY helpful.. heres some pictures of how they setup on a 1.3, this is using a 'webber style' of filter, the stock one can be used but an adaption plate may need to be fabbed up.. The standard 4k accel. bracket will need to be retained as well.

So its just like I said, same carb, with less stuff that has no effect on how the carb works on the outside

what size jets do they have?

less stuff on the outside can only be a good thing with all the crap that hangs off the original carbs! The manual choke, exposed idle, mixture screws etc are handy to..

Couldnt tell you the OG Jetsize.. Shakes will know it im sure.. he's been a rolla head since way back then..

but according to wiki the 3k-b runs Primary-0.83mm, Secondary-1.26mm, Idle-0.45mm

So id imagine the 4k wouldnt be to far out of that region..

the only stuff that hangs off the original carb is the idle up stuff on teh front and the auto choke stuff off teh back, the idle mixture and speed are in the exact same spot

IMHO it is same as putting Vit carbs on 1.3 Sierras.
Most Corollas and a lot of Vits have never seen a dirt road, let alone mud.
Thus, most carbs off these cars are still clean and good.
Just my thoughts, have no tech to back it up.

Nope. I've only ever played with 4a engines. I tend to stay the hell away from carb's. I seem to do more harm than good any time I touch them.

The guy that works at Thornbury Carburettors and EFI on the other hand is a guru. Literally tuned the weber on the bench before I bolted it to the car. Has also got ~10kw more (same dyno same day) tuning carbs by ear/feel/balancetubes than guys who where using the dyno as their guide and were supposed experts.

As for the 4k carb royce, I've never used one so really shouldnt comment but it seem's simpler all round. Which in my eye's isn't a bad thing.

I still got one left over from my Sierra.
I gave it to some guy, and he never got round to picking it up.
Maybe he thought delivery was included in the price of nothing

Yeah Royce not sure why but they are really trouble free, they are old carbies from the 70's and early 80's so maybe they were just simpler, better quality and had more generous tollerances. I have taken a 3K carbie off a KE20 with 300,000 + kms on it and it still worked fine, no missing, no flatspots, smooth idle. The corolla carbies are actually Asian not Hitachi like the Suzuki ones. Don't forget though that they are usually fitted because the old carby was playing up so it is not really like comparing it with a good sierra carbie.

Aisan*

IIRC

Aisan make carbies, Nissin make brakes!
People always confuse them with Asian and Nissan :D
