One of the easiest mods to do on a leaf sprung Sierra.
Cost: $0
Tools required: 12mm, 14mm, 17mm spanners
Time required: 5 minutes
There are two bolts and two nuts to remove, and two bolts to loosen.
Remove the two bolts off the spring plate, and allow the rear of the sway bar to drop.
Remove the two nuts off the front sway bar mounts.
Undo the two of the bolts off the sway bar bushing cap. Either side is fine.
And slide the swaybar across through the bust about an inch.
This will allow the removal of the mounts off the front without having to undo all the bolts.
Once the front mounts are off the swaybar is ready to be removed. The easiest way it to move it side to side through the springs.
Very easy
NOTE:
Sway bar memoval can upset the handling of your car.

Good writeup ... but ya forgot to mention WHY you'd take the swaybar off!
Basically it provides increased torsional stiffness to the front of the car, helping control body roll on cornering. This same torsional stiffness can restrict articulation of the front diff offroad. So removing the swaybar can get you some extra flexy goodness out of the standard front suspension.

Made very little difference to mine when stock ... a bit more with 2" body lift due to higher centre of gravity ... probably a whole lot more now that I have RUF with 2" lifted springs in the rear and slightly longer shackles, but I don't think the swaybar will go back on due to the work I've done anyway!
If you take it off, just drive your Zook like a fourby not a racing car and you'll be fine

increased body roll on mine for sure and made it more prone to spinning the inside wheel on hard cornering - but nothing that wasnt easy to adjust to.
definitely one of the easiest offroad performance enhancers you can do other than letting some air out of the tyres =)

Sounds like a nice little mod to do, I might give it a go over Christmas
Thanks for the write up. My only question is, is it still legal? or just something to put back before a road worthy? Pretty new to all this

I think it's illegal to remove the sway bar, but due to the leaf springs, it won't effect you on road, but off road it will be awesomeness. Don't stress about the legality, the police won't even know what the attachment points are for.....

The jimny ones seem to crack their mounts at the diff and fall off of their own accord anyway, so by taking it off you're just speeding up the inevitable =)

The answer is always the same to this question - take it off and take it for a drive. if you don't like it, put it back on. It's really a matter of personal preference. Some people prefer higher front roll stiffness on road, some prefer lower.
I prefer the feel of a car with lower front roll stiffness on road (this is true for road cars and off road cars), as it's easier to judge front end grip and understeer is reduced. Some people think the increased body roll feels spooky and makes the car feel nervous.
Simples.
