hey moose can you please post a pic of your beast flexed up.. i want to see how the rear compares to mine..

my ride dont flex for shit cus the shocks a limited,.. they looked maxed out when sitting flat.. heheh..
here is a pic of mine..
my 35s are almost inline with the sliders.. i want then to go far beyond them..
Image

if were to get slightly longer springs and all i get is the same sought of flex as 83zook, (dont get me wrong, thats some good shit) i dont see the point of all the stuff around.. i might as well just remove 1 leaf.. my rear shakles angel is between moos and 83zook,

yhe i heard about that ^^^^^^ thats goto suck.. i thought he would have pic of it flexing befor acca. yhe i would of chosen to run 33's if i built it.. but mhe.. it was on there wen i got it and its engineered for it.. but it will go over bigger obstacles easier  ..
but who knows,, might down grade to 33s.. saves me buying t/case gears.

Moose, with the schackle reversal did you find the front wheels would drop off an obstacle and the shackles would get hung up? I was under my rig today and looking at how fast the chassis drops down where the spring hanger is. I figured with an SR the schackles would be damn low. I even considered puting ths schackle hanger tube through the chassis like a hilux but thats not exactly as easily reversible hehe.

I agree especially considering you can actually see it rubbing on the front and the way to short wheelbase for 35's. How steep is your driveway? Cause that thing would flip on mine...

Mooses SR looks fully custom with long leaves that mount further back on the chassis than the normal sprin hanger point. My calmini kit uses the normal spring hanger location to hang the shackle from. It's only a smallish shackle though not much longer than stock if at all. I don't find it to be a problem at all and I often drop off steep ledges. I actually love doing it cause I know I can with the awsome approach and departure angle zooks have but alot of my mates bigger trucks can't with alot more tyre than me.

like i said in the previous post, its how i got it..
so i might as well use it right..

as for the wheel base.. ill be stretching its out once i get the car back from the shop... ill be doing the RUF and 323s in the rear.. in that pic it actually didn't rub that much.. it just skimmed it plus the wheel was turned..
iv had no troubles doing some decent hill climbs.. it was actually a good thing i had the 35s cus on the top of the hill was a point.. i would of bellied out..

there are a lot of ppl running 35s on there zooks.. its not a bad thing champ.. it may be prone to tipping a lil more than one that has stock height and wheels, but hey you still hear about them tipping, TRUE.. even ppls with 80series, the can still put them on there sides..

it comes down to how careful you are and which path on the track you wish to use.. if you are sure you are going to tip on a certain path then DONT DO IT.. or build your self a exo cage,, thats another thing on my to do list

Post subject:  Re: longer leafs

with the front shackles , they did cop a bit of scrapping , but never enuff to get stuck , with the weight of a zook , its not really a big issue !!
also thought of going through the chassis , like a lux ,
see how it looks in a couple of weeks , on stage 2 !!
(also i was still running standard shock mounts !!) :D

Post subject:  Re: longer leafs

ok been trying the rear mazda 323 springs in the rear via trial and error.

These pics it sits tooo low. stock mazda spring, with 15mm wheelbase ext.
Image
Image
Image

These pics are with mazda main. 2" mid, 2"semimid (smaller with clamps), Then mazda bottom. (cant really see, small..)
Image
Image

Now im getting a funny warp in the spring because of the 2" springs in the middle...

Should i just cut the main 2" spring with the loops for shackles not on the car, so it sits out more so the pivot point of the spring is off the other leaf as shown?

I confused on what to do... rises up to stock bumpstop, But does not seem to drop 'without short shocks' more then before either on a ramp up a drain canal...

OR, Sorry.. Should i have gone Mazda main, 2" main with loops cut off, 2"semi and chuck in a mazda one on bottom. I want it soft but with lift...

Hard to explain.

Post subject:  Re: longer leafs

you need a 2nd leaf as long as the main without the bush endsso it will support the vehicles weight.

Also by moving your front mount bolt hole forward some it will take some angle out of the shackle and also give it some lift

Author:  BlueSuzy [ Sat Jun 21, 2008 2:24 am ]
Post subject:  Re: longer leafs

Im thinking i might have to find another main and cut for a 2nd or use my 2" main cut...Which i dont really want to cos if this doesnt work i cant go back to the normal 2"springs.. :?

Also if i move the springs forward, it will upset the location already.... The stock 323 location + 15mm longer wheelbase means its almost right on the edge of the diff plate.. Dont want to redrill the springs, scared of snapping them :?

Have you got a pic of how your car sat with just the mazda leafs?

And what assortment of leaves did you have? Meaning what springs in your packs etc?

did you say drop shackles 8O 8O Thats cheating. Got any real flex pics without the drop shackle cheating

Post subject:  Re: longer leafs

because the mazda springs were very long i had to do someting to make them work, so other than a chassic extension, the drop was the way to go.
i will post a pic tomorrow

Post subject:  Re: longer leafs

b4t, do you think nitrous is cheating, or turbo charging???
ill do whateva it takes to win the race :D and drive some hard tracks along the way..

my last setup was rear:
spoa mazda springs, 4 leafs total, they measured 45"..
front was full RUF with 2"lifted springs spua, drop shackles front and rear
below pic was taken after everything settled in on old setup..
next pic is my REAL flex pic, just for you b4t

Post subject:  Re: longer leafs

I have now made up my decision!!!!

I have the stock mazda 323 rears in the back.
I have the stock suzy sierra rears up front.

The rear shackle angle is like 1st pic,
Then front shackle angle is abit more vertical, i said abit...

Both sets of spring packs make it lower then before, Bit like the 1st pic up top, but all round.

The rear diff is drilled 35mm back = 15mm extra wheelbase
The front diff is stock rear spring location = 30mm extra wheelbase(on my springs)

I now need new longer brake lines. Yet to sort out how much longer

And then via a huge flex test (Crossing my fingers it flexes hardcore  ) I will need to remount the shockmounts higher to suit the dropage. Front and back

See how we go now..
