Hello everyone! I'm having some issues with the rear seals on my sierra. the one i brought looks different to the one in the housing and i'm not sure which way the new one is supposed to go in. I've hopefully attached a pic of the seal and a pic of the old seal in the housing still. If anyone can shed some light on this ill be very grateful   Also, are there any tricks to getting the seal out? my last option will be a claw hammer or something similar. Matt |

How it is in your hand, That side faces out. So the lip/spring is on the inside. If you can, Stake a flat screwdriver through the middle of the seal at the bottom. Push it halfway up the screwdriver and pull up, trying to bend the seal in and off its location. That will help pull it out. Otherwise the dodgy way is to get a screwdriver between the diff and seal and wiggle. If you mark the diff too much it wont 'seal' the new seal properly. |

Thanks guys.. managed to get it out and the new seal in and now the axle wont go in all the way.. theres about 2mm of bearing still showing. Scrawn- ive got a front seal here and its bigger and slightly different. |

Yeah true. Looks weird, but the backing plate will go around it.

I was really getting the shits with it to haha finished the front to.. just to clear up what i said about the front seal, its smaller then the rear. Turns out they gave me the wrong seal. |

Did you put a smear of Permatex around the outer steel band? I always brush on a little permatex on the steel seals ( never on rubber seals though!) . It helps make a more positive seal between the steel outer and the seal surface. |

I didnt think it was ideal so I only used a tiny bit. If it leaks ill just redo it. Good learning curve. |
