Hey all I was wondering if I can change the wheels on my 6x4 box trailer to be the same as my Jimny. I know nothing about trailer hubs... can you just buy a set of trailer hubs with the correct stud pattern? Ebay was no help... |

Lots of trailer places sell them. You could put axle under the springs if it needs to be higher. |

Yes you can mate, i changed the hubs on my pod trailer to f100 hubs so i have same rims and tyres allround. I highly recommend these guys http://www.satrailer.com.au/ but i'm sure someone closer to you could do the same. I rang them in the morning, they checked to make sure they had some f100 hubs in stock and what bearings i was running on the trailer. I went straight there, whilst i was paying for them they pressed in the bearings and all greased up.

Thanks everyone! So just to clarify.. f100 as in the ford f100 trucks? My suzuki has the same stud pattern as those behemoths? I'll ask my local auto parts guy (not supercheap LOL) and see if he can get them for me. |

Ive got two 15"x8" ex f100 rims if you want em $20 and come get them, maybe a little far though Just take one of your hubs off and down to your local trailer shop, from memory there are two main bearing types, ford and something, probably holden, but anyway they get you sorted |

thx guys I just arranged a full new set of rims for the jimny with tyres so i'll have plenty of spares. I wonder if anyone knows the load ratings of the rims though? My dad has a camper trailer that's pretty heavy and it has 14inch tyres. It wouldnt fit big wheels but maybe the jimny 15s would be ok. |

What is funny is that people bag suercheap but with many parts including trailer hubs they get them from the same manufacturers as every other auto parts place does, however because they have buying power they can sell them to you cheaper. I have recently put new hubs on a jetski trailer for a mate, he got them from supercheap, they were the same and in same packaging as ones I bought from a trailer specialist at Brendale, his were $15 cheaper for the pair. |

The pattern you need will be labelled as F100. The hubs SCA carry for F100 will probably not have the correct bearing size/spacing for your existing axle. You'll need a specialist trailer parts supplier to get F100 with the correct bearing size/spacing to match your axle. When I built my original trailer you could only fit F100 hubs to a large diameter axle but as others have mentioned in this thread the hubs are now available to suit other bearing configurations. In Brisbane I use Vehicle Components at Geebung. http://www.vehiclecomponents.com.au/ Check out row F

I think i'll follow these simple instruction to convert it: Wait till have my extra set of jimny wheels. Throw 2 of them in the trailer. Pull up at the local trailer place and say 'please change my hubs so the trailer takes these wheels, call me when it's ready' Get on with my life. I expect they will look at the state of the axle and springs and want to replace the lot, though. They certainly look rusty. |

Axle will be fine but could do with a coat of paint. New springs are only $40 or so each. |

Thanks Want33s What do you think I should look for when deciding if the springs need replacing? Should they be replaced if they have rust, or should I look for other signs of decay before writing them off? |

From what I can see of those springs they look pretty good. Mine had a lot more, wire brushed them, oiled them... all good. So long as the metal hasn't eaten away and they're not rusted solid they should still be fine. Of course you have to make that call

I stopped in at Vehicle Components today and asked if they had F100 hubs for differing bearing configurations. He said yes and we agreed that I'll bring a hub in to confirm. |

Shame it's north side. I'll be kinda up that way in a few weekends but the financial complainer/controller will be present also. I also just realised that in my pics the trailer seems to be 5 stud. I really ought to make sure it doesnt already have the right pattern, shouldnt I? It looks too small though... |

Highly unlikely it will be the same. Will probably be a Ford Falcon or Holden stud pattern as they are the most common. Show us a pic of the wheel and someone will probably know what it's off. |
