Post subject:  Planning a trip to stockton. Advice please.

So i want to spend a few days down stockon with a friend in a few weeks time.
Now ive got abit of experience driving on sand but only the zook once (was so much fun, heaps better then "fullsize")

Just want some advice on beach camping.
what we need to take, where to camp etc etc.

Now i normally run 23psi on road and 10-15 off
ive got 235/75/15 bighorns how low can i go "safely" on the beach.

Thanks in advance :D

personally 9-10psi in the sand down here will get you pretty much everywhere, i'd go lower only when you have to... eg bogged on the beach with the tide lapping at your rims.

Ok cool. I noticed when i took the zook out to 9 mile the other day that although it didnt get hot it used shite load of fuel. like 7-8 litres for 10km's

Thats nothing really. I used 75 litres to go 45 kilometeres once in my landcruiser. It was just mud every where.

My fuel economy for the LWB 1.6 Vitara in the dunes, was around 25L/100k

Towing trailer on normal hwy on way up,
was around 12.5 L/100k

Righto,

So to start things off you're going to need somewhere to stay if you we're planning to camp on the beach as its still off limits.

Second of all, all the decent dunes are out of bounds at present, and driving between lavis lane and birubi is only permitted along the front of the beach.

Tire pressures can vary! I usually run around 10psi, but I was up there a few weeks ago with 31zook, and it was so soft I needed to drop to 7psi... But start at 10 and see how you go!

The only other thing you'll need is a strap incase you get stuck. Presuming you're going on a weekend, there's always plenty of people around and someone will help you get out sooner or later.

Let me know if you want someone to show you round, and if I'm free ill take you up and show you where you're allows etc :)

Yeah generally you can, however after storms earlier in the year it's been classed as too dangerous blah blah blah and they've temporarily closed all the fun parts :(

There is another beach about 15 mins from the birubi end that you can camp on, but its the nudist beach and the wang far outweighs the chicks. Although I have seen some nice (female) sights up there ;) hahaha

I'd personally wait and see if Stockton opens up later on in summer. It's much better in the big dunes, and nothin beats sitting on too of a dune at the end of the day drinkin a beer with the stereo pumping while the sun sets ;)
