Hi Everyone,

New to the forum and on the hunt for a Jimny, the price range we're looking at means we're right on the cusp of some 1999-2001 cars when the engine series changed.

Having a bit of mechanical knowledge behind me I can't help but think that the M engine would be better just by having two cams? Less stress than that on one cam driving all those valves? And it's newer ;).

Having only driven one, and it having the M engine, and having some experience with an 8V G13BA in my old Swift, if we can spare the money would we be better off with the newer car with the M engine or an older G13BB that might come with some add ons like a bull bar etc.?

It's never going to be a comfy car on inter capital highway cruising no matter which donk we have, but good information will help us.

Sorry for the dumb question, I tried to find a timeline of Jimny on this forum saying what changed and why (including engine histories) and it was all too hard to get the search terms right.

Happy for any responses which might make up our mind.

Cheers,

Tony

If you plan on keeping it for a while, buy the newest car with the lowest K's you can find/afford.
Both G series and M series Jims have their pro's and cons.

I think the best advantage of the M13 is that it has a lower maintenance timing chain over the G13's higher maintenance belt. I think besides theres not really much in it. I'd focus on the mileage and condition of the whole vehicle really.

The M motors are nice. So much smoother than the G's and more upgrades with lower k's.

Ended up getting a 1999 G13BB with 148,000km and the timing belt sticker is under the bonnet saying it was replaced at 99,000 or something like that.

apparently the m13 motors are very exspensive to rebuild apparently my mate is an engine builder and he was saying yesterday that @ trade price head bolts were $110 alone

Probably cheaper just to buy a low km engine to put in rather than rebuilding then. I have a VVT M13A with just under 54000kms for sale for $200 + freight and still can't sell it. http://www.auszookers.com/forum/viewtop ... =7&t=35650
