Hi, just got my jimny back on the road. Spark plug blew off the head smashing the coil pack. Had to get a helicoil to put it back in. Also had to change my tailshaft as the rattling was annoying the hell out of me. Tailshaft was modified as they eliminated the cv from the gearbox and replaced it with a uni joint. Anyway car is driving sweet only thing is I was getting 400 to 420 out of a full tank now I'm only getting 350 to 360. All new plugs a new coil pack. Any thoughts? Tried searching but I'm on an iPhone so it's pretty hard. Ps car is completely standard. |

o2 sensor is my suggestion. what year is the jimny as there are 2 types of engine G13bb & the M13a? |

Yeah 99 g13b. It's got 178000k's. is there any tuning involved when replacing the O2 sensor? |

all ya do when replace O2 sensor is disconnect the battery when doing it so when reconnect with new o2 sensor the ECU adjusts to the new sensor. In theory o2 sensors last around 100,000k but replaced mine at 150,000k, i ordered mine from the USA as sooooo much cheaper than here! |

I just called my local Suzi dealer and nearly had a heart attack! $470.00 for an o2 sensor  what website should I use and how much should i expect to pay?

Repco wants around $120 at trade price so Could you please point us in the right direction to get an O2 sensor as that is a bit steep in price still. Thanks. |

disconnect battery 22mm spanner unplug & remove old sensor refit new sensor with a light smear of never-seize type stuff on the thread plug back in connect battery take it for 2 drives |

Done the O2 sensor and have noticed no difference in fuel consumption. Still getting about 360k /tank. |

ah sory about late reply got mine from Summit racing like most exhaust and some other parts... PS takes around 300Km - 500km for the ECU to remap itself so if if fuel consumption is bad after try cleaning the MAF sensor there is special cleaner that can clean them. If really want to treat your motor get some Bitron to go in oil and some injector cleaner, my car went from 440 per tank to 520 now its been a few months since putting it in and gone back down to 420k per tank with the fuel injecor cleaner you get a good size bottle that lasts a while as only need to put a few ml in per tank. The only thing is the price of the Bitron bight out way the savings in fuel. |

I learnt that from when i converted my car to E85 took just over 300k to adjust to the longer injector pulse width etc, also remember when i had a Jimny fuel usage was shocking after a big service for the first tank of fuel, then was ok after, I only got 320k out of tank usually got around 440 out of tank. The thing the ECU learns quickly is the MAP for idle. When i change fuels now it only takes a few K to realise the fuel has changed, its harder for the ECU to go back to standard fuel than it does to E85. Changing my O2 sensors took me around 400k before i noticed a difference, it idled a little higher and had a bit of a flat spot, it slowly smoothed out. Also probably depends on how bad the previous O2 sensors where. Rhinopower might now about the Jimny ECU and how quick they are at learning. |

yeah im agreeing with Gecko too. AFAIK the Jim's have a learning ecu and changes map gradually over the course of a few tanks of fuel. My hyundai was the same when I had that. an old trick was to disconnect the battery for 10mins. then drive it like you stole it for a day or so, as the biggest adjustments are done in the first few kms of driving, then they sort of even out after a while. You'd do the exact opposite if you want it to be fuel efficient, drive it like a girl for a day or so whether the jim is the same or not i dont know. but i suspect it is. |
