Okay, So i have reduction gears and a new dd on the way... SO a few newb questions... 1. How good will the reduction gears be if i step up to 33's? are they low enough? 2. How much guard choping will i have to do to fit 33's... 3. Is it worth going to 33's with a IFS Vit? 4. What lift do you advised to fit with 33's (is 3" sus + 2" body enough) 5. better of just getting a sierra? The 33's will only be on for weekends... Trying to sus the options |

33's would be too big I reckon, the effort involved to fit them isn't worth it as you will lose too much power turning them, not to mention you would need C.V.'s made of unobtainium. |

how about learn to wheel it on the 31's first, then see if you NEED to go to a larger tyre. |

sorry but your asking for trouble.!! your cvs will die, your diffs will die and you will kill just about every thing else. honestly if you dont know how to go about fitting 33s to the car without asking in noob talk you probably dont need 33s |

CVs, steering and firewall will be your big problems. I'd like to think that I can get to 33s eventually, but I'm doing it in stages and solving the little problems as I come across them (longer rear arms, guard triming, gearing, CV strength, blah blah blah.) The little teeth on my 5.12 ring gear has me a little apprehensive. I'm never going to run more lift than the 3"+2" so have to think a bit more laterally now. It's achievable, but there are lots and lots of things to get around to make them work. |

Why 33's? I know the ol' "bigger is better" but, I think 33's is waaay over kill. And you say you'll be using them for weekends only, but you'll get so sick of swapping tyres over you'll never take them off. I also think 31's or even 30's will get you in and out of everything you'd need. |

Mines capable enough on 31's. Would love bigger, but not prepared to do the work, or spend the dosh. I run transfer gears in mine, they would turn 33's easily in low, but not in high. |

mate, learn to drive with a smaller tyre first, then when you think you cant do any more.....keep trying.......then find some 33's. There is probably a lot of stuff that will break with them. Then again, later down the track i would like to get a full size 32 for the harder tracks. |

The only reason I'm pushing further is because I learn more with every step, and that's why I bought the car in the first place. Haven't driven anything with the gears in yet, so I'll see how that goes with the 265s (and maybe an H20 to shove things along a bit...  )If you were doing any road distance in a 1.6 on 33s I think you'd have to look at an Undertaker or Sierra transfer to knock high range down a bit. oohsam wrote: Why 33's? Bigger is better for a reason, and not just looks  Diff clearance and a larger contact patch are the most immediate, but approach, ramp over and departure angles are all improved, as well as the approach angle of the tyre itself when you're up against a step, especially if it's undercut. This is obviously balanced out by weight, gearing, resistance in steering, clearance, and increased (leveraged) loads on every part of the drive train. |

I thought my parts vit was pretty capable when it was on 33s. Stock gearing as well. |

Im happy to put in the work, i have a new dd. and i have a 100s LC that will be pasted to me in the next year or 2, Within 5 years this car will just be my "Play Toy" I have a 2.6L turbo engine sitting around ready to go in if the 1.6 dies, So in the end 33's will be fine to push |

I have been 4x4ing my whole life, i have done advanced training and have a certificate for it. I know theres alot to upgrade, but im happy to do that in the end. |

there was no 37" option? i daily drove mine to north ryde (100k round trip) on 32's for a few weeks, was really not that bad, would sit on 120 in 5th no worries |

I ran the calamari 3" suspension kit and a 2" body lift with -44 15x8's and 32" wranglers. Had to chop the front guards up a bit. Was good on road, and fine Offroad in the mid, but when it came to technical driving (like rocks) I had to ride the clutch everywhere. It all comes down to how and what you drive. |
