Hi AZ, I'm fitting a baleno g16b into my sierra. I've already found the right info on here on how to modify the sump for the crank angle sensor but I can't really find much info on modifying the oil pickup. My understanding is that you graft the sierra and baleno pick up tubes together? Whats the best way to do this? Whats the best way to weld them...would mig work or would it need to be tig? any pictures or advice would be great thanks. |

I cut and shut the pickup at the oil pump fitting end, saves having to modify the sump baffle. Just need to make up a support bracket for the other end. |

At the fitting end. Easy job. I used a crappy gasless mig so had to full a few holes. I would say come check out mine but I just glued the sump on. Currently doing this conversion as well. |

thanks for the advice and pics guys. So brazing it would probably be the best method for getting a leak free joint? I don't have access to a oxy so worst case would the mig suffice or would the joint be to hard to seal with the mig? |

Mig is fine mate. It's thin steel but it's not too bad hey. |

If you look at that pic of the pickups it shows the small diameter 1300 pickup. Later model 1300's have a larger diameter pickup tube, same as 1600. Source the larger tube 1300 pickup and weld the 1600 end on that way you won't restrict oil flow. |

A couple of the pics above are mine, I was concerned about restricting the oil flow but it doesn't seem to have had too much effect. The pipe was from the original 1.3 engine in my 1986 SJ413K. The conversion was done on a very tight budget with limited tools - if I was doing it again I think I would make up a whole new pipe as its not a hugely complicated shape, or maybe try to source a GV pipe and sump. Edit: Gosh, I just read that newspaper! |
