Hey guys

So I've bought some LED work lights and a tripod to put them on etc

Wired them up to be switched independantly
Powered them up tonight for a test run,
It was the most dismal light I've ever seen.

Tried swapping fuses and switches and got no improvements
Tried using the wire that come directly from the light and :rambo: :rambo: nearly blinded my stupid ass didn't I?
So this means the wire I'm using between the switches is shit and has to much voltage drop/resistance.

can anyone confirm this or correctly diagnose my stupid noob problem?

Wire would have to be really shit..
I'd bypass the switch to try to eliminate it.

Swapped to a 30 dollar switch from the 3 dollar switch and had no luck
But as soon as I out the wire that comes from the lights right to the battery it works.
Only thing missing is the wire.

Twin core 3mm I think from memory it's 1.13mm2

I would reckon thats too thin a cable for 100w of light, 2.8mm2 would be better

depending on your idea of dismal, its likely a bad connection or your battery you are using is buggered and cant supply the current

You wired them to the main battery or aux? Engine running or not?

Tried both. Engine running and not.
Shit connection somewhere :( the factory wire from LEDs itself gives no trouble add in my 3m of wire and a switch and big problems.

Instead of using a switch to break the circuit use the switch to turn a relay on and off, Earth the light as close to the light as possible and run a decent size wire from batt positive through relay to light...

take the switch out of the circuit & see if it works with the 3m length of wire, then you'll know what's causing the problem.

Waiting for temperature to cool down this arvo and I'll go down and finish fooling around trying and testing all your ideas. I'll let you know how I go.

the problem will be the connections between either the new 3m piece of wire to the old wire or connections to the switch or connections to the battery.

at the size you have said the cable is the resistance of the small piece of wire is roughly only 0.05 Ohm. so the wire size is not going to affect it at all.

One of the LED is only around 2.25A even with 2 of them that's only 4.5A and that size cable can easily take that. It could take quite easily up to and probably over 11A.

Ok so small grave dig.
Remade the wiring harness and used 6mm wire and soldered all the connections and it works properly now!!
Yay!!!!!
