Hello As the tittle says , are all M series engines imobilized , ie need the key to match the imobilizer etc ? From my web search I think they are . Thanks Chris |

Blakey wrote: yes they are you can always remove it tho. Not an easy task. The key transponder, coil antenna and ECU are all coded. ie. matching set. New keys can be purchased from suzuki and re-coded, but make sure you are sitting down when they give you the price! |

I would say find the immobilizer disconnect it open it up bridge its switching circuit so its always outputting then reconnect it, id say to do it tho you would need a fairly good idea of how electronics works as id say the immobilizer would give a specific signal to the ECU to actually enable the starting circuit. its doable but do it wrong and you would brick the ICM then would most likely need new ECU and ICM better off going after market ECU or go to suzuki and get a new transponder coded. |

The data transfer between the ECU and immo is encrypted and only occurs at key on. The encryption key changes at each key on so its not possible to simply record the data and then resend it using a different circuit. The immo only has a few wires and it does make it more difficult to steal the vehicle so why not just wire it in? |

So I got two keys when I purchased my Jimny ('10 model). One has the push buttons etc and one just has what looks like a solid black plastic head on it... You reckon this has a transponder thingo in it? |

The earlier transponder keys don't have any buttons, they look like the ones below:

I had to use it for a couple of months when I couldn't find my master key. That's why I asked the question. I can't see how there would be anything in it (not saying there isn't), and always wondered how the immobiliser worked. |

I don't have the key atm, 31zook has it along with my jimny so I can't post a picture of it. |

At key on the immo sends the key codes and immo code to the ECU and if they match whats stored in the ECU then the ECU enables fuelling. |
