| Post subject: | New Grand Vitara Gearbox breather |
WE purchased a 2011 Grand Vitara and cannot find any info on locating the breather on the gearbox. Visually is it the tube facing down from near the top of the bellhousing if not where is it and is there another breather for the transfer case. I have extended both Diff breathers but am stonkered on the gearbox transfer case breathers. any advise appreciated. Bobsan |

If Suzuki followed the same set up as the Vitara's, yes it would be a tube facing down near the top of the bell housing. My Vit transfer case breather is joined into the gearbox breather tube on top of the gearbox so only one tube up into the engine bay. From underneath you should be able to trace the tube back along the top of the gearbox....depending on access and the size of your hand of course. |

I have a 2010 auto and asked ARB to put diff breathers in and one for the transmission, they did the diffs but said the transmission was fully sealed and couldn't be done. |

Correct disco, automatic gearboxes don't have breathers. Manuals do though. Steve. |

Pirahna do them but only when the gear box is dropped down |

Yes it will. Not sure if this as been covered, but old shape vitaras have a transfer breather that goes up to the firewall. Not sure about the NGV. |

I'm a total tech newb, but ARB did look at my transmission to see if it needed a breather, and told me it was "fully sealed". So if you trust them, you'd presume there isn't any. |

There will be a breather on a manual transmission and the transfer case, for sure. Otherwise there is nowhere for the pressure to vent when he air in it gets hot. Maybe Steve125 or another experienced NGV owner can confirm if they still have a firewall mounted breather. It's still worth considering how deep you really want to go into water. The top of the transfer is going to equal water close to bum depth inside the car if you stop/get stuck. That would most likely be considered an insurance write off. Steve. |

I think the wading depth of the NGV is 500mm Adding breathers and snorkel - well I'm a total tech newb, but the 600mm seemed okay, I'd probably go to 700mm but not sure if i would feel comfortable going past that. Particularly in croc infested water. |

Can anyone confirm that depth? That's surprisingly deep for a manufacturer figure. Sounds like it could open up a litany of warranty claims, and everyone knows suzukis attitude to warranty claims after offroad use. Steve. |

^ this is exactly what I thought, I am just repeating what I've been told on this forum I'm pretty sure the book says something like 'half way up the wheels' since they are stock 16inch I guess around 200mm. |

That'd be about 350mm then, which would be below diff seals, the gearbox etc. it's pretty much the number you'd expect to ensure the dealer never has to deal with water ingress into anything as a warranty issue. Steve. |

Anyone know where I can find this information on some Suzuki paperwork? |
