Post subject:  Diff Breathers for Vitara?
I put this in the N00b section because I think it might be a stupid question, so no hate :D

I have a '95 V6 Vitara. I have followed the stock breather lines, the rear on goes up behind the rear brake light, and the front one goes right up in the engine bay. I can tell you now, I will not be taking my car so deep that my engine bay is submerged and/or my brake lights are submerged, if I am doing that, I think I would have more problems than just water in my diffs.

Basically, I am wondering, would I need to extend my diff breathers even if my stock ones are high enough, if so why? Also, does the transfer come stock with breathers? I couldn't see any.

The rear ones can pop off if you've got longer than stock shocks and springs. Hose clamp on the rear one and maybe extending the length a little so there is some more slack but maintaing the the same position up into the body should be fine.

did them on my old one, ran them high into the engine bay... haven't bothered with the blagon.

i've extended the length of hose from the rear diff to where it mounts on the front crossmember for the fuel tank, the front doesn't move so it's been left as is & the transfer case & gearbox join up & run up the back of the bellhousing & sit up out of the way.

Yeah, I noticed the rear breather when installing my Lift kit. All i did was unscrew it from where it was screwed to the body and that gave plenty of slack in the hose. It has never slipped off, and its been months.
I suppose, i was just wondering if you guys swapped out the breather because the stock ones didn't provide sufficient breathing ability, or something like that? Because in my opinion they are pretty high up already, and would only encounter a splash or so when doing crossings.

Do you think doing the transfer and gearbox is worth doing? I hear you have to tap your own holes? :?

maybe on a shitty sierra, but on the vitara's the transfer case & gearbox breathers join up & the hose runs up the back of the bellhousing & sits up out of the way.

Yeah thanks guys, I better check my rear breather hose since I have a Dobinson lift kit in. Otherwise the Vit setup is pretty good as it comes from the factory.
