Post subject:  heavy duty clutch or standard clutch what is better

Hi everyone I was just reading some threads and now I am not sure about what to buy I am going to run 31" tyres and 4.9:1 transfer case gears and so what do you guys recommend to buy and funds are not the issue. I am wondering in terms of clutch slippage and long life and how the clutch cable will handle the hd clutch thanks for your help

A Sierra doesn't need a HD clutch. A Sierra with reduction gears needs one even less. A Sierra with reduction gears and a driver with mechanical sympathy doesn't need one at all.

Also - old clutch cables die eventually regardless of whether fitting a HD clutch or not so best to get a new cable when replacing the clutch.

Thanks heaps for clearing that up for me I think I might stick to a normal clutch and while I am thinking about it do I need offset rims to run 31s on a 2" lift and 2" body lift

NPC clutches claim that they can build a HD Exedy clutch with 25% more clamping force with little extra pedal pressure. I have to agree with this.

With stock gearing and 29's, my clutch would stink after anything more than a mild take off through the gears. The exedy smells only under extreme punishment.

I am very happy with it and happy I went this way.

I replaced my standard clutch in my Vit (and rear main seal) at about 185xxxkm when I was getting gearbox rebuilt. Not sure if it was original clutch but hardly worn at all. Put a standard Exedy in and it works good so far.
