Post subject:  bodymounted jimny sliders

Hi Guys
i have some sliders that mount he same as these below. long story short, because of where the washer is welded in the vertical tube, the sliders will take all the pressure from the nut and washer or in my case with a body lift, the female bolt and washer.
this means the rubber that normally compresses when you do up the nut (or female bolt) will be fully floating and the sliders will reduce the maximum vertical travel on the 4 inner most body mount points.

is this going to crack, damage or change anything? at the moment its next to impossible to get the bolts to thread onto the stud as the welded washer is too far down the tube amd the bolts wont reach.
should i cut 15-20 mm off the tube, bringing the step closer to the sills, and allow the rubber mounts to accept some of the tension?

Just letting you know if you ever land hard on those side steps they will knock your door panels off. I wouldn't buy them.

i have a similar design slider but the mounting is different. when you take the nut, plate and rubber piece off the actually body mount has a raised face, i cut a hole big enough to go around that, therefore the slider mount has a wider diameter surface to sit on.

i dont think ill hit much with them, their main use is just geting in and out of the car a bit easier. same principal but different alltogether. i like that design but next question, how do they feel to step on? do they flex geting in or is the nut pressure enough to keep them in place perfectly> id imagine having the rubber under the slider mounting face makes it flex a little more??

Yeah they do flex, i weigh around 85kg and the up and down travel where you stand is only around 15mm. i took the sliders off the other day and checked the body mounts for damage and all seem fine, no damage to thread, body mount face and rubber (internal / external)
