Stock coily rim is 15x5.5"
Stock coily tyre is 205/70-15.

Hey guys, Just wondering how big you can go in terms of wheels for a 98 sierra before you would need more power or to muck with the gear box etc.. any help would be good. cheers |

I'm running 235/75R15's on mine, but I should have put on the 215's as above. Around town, it not much of an issue, but on a decent country run, the smaller tyre will make the trip more enjoyable... With the 235's speed drops quite rapidly up hills, and in head winds... |

Same engine. Same massive horsepower. If you have money to spare, try the 235's. Then try the 215's. I bought the 235's in a M/T, because they were DIRT cheap. (Brand new from the warehouse, 80 bucks each.) (dirt cheap for WA, that is) I fitted and balanced them myself. If the 215's could have been got for the same money, I would had them instead, definately. My last Sierra, I also ran 235's, so I knew what I was getting in to, but I am not a hard core offroader, and simply play a bit, in the dunes, on the beach, some minor 4wd tracks. I know if I get off me arse and buy the headers, and maybe a carby, it'll have better performance on the hills, but currently, I am happy enough, not to bother. |

Yeah, but we knew he meant what size Wheels, as in "tyre and rim assembly". And that always translates to how big a tyre can (we) put on... And anyways, even a 20" rim wont suck horsepower if you continue to maintain original tyre diameter... (about a 245/30r20.) HA!  But, yeah, possibly you are correct.... BUT... my coily came fitted with 15x7 alloys, dealer installed option. |

Yeah thanks for the help guys, i mean just the overall diameter of the wheel so question answered. If you wanted to go bigger what is the first step in terms of engine/gearbox to deal with a bigger wheel? |
