Post subject:  what oils and filters for sv420 ?

hi everyone,

want to give the vitara a complete oil drain and fresh fill up.

so i know everybody uses different grades and brands etc, but would the shell helix hx5 mineral oil 15w-40 be any good for my 2.0 vitara with 173.000km?
or should i rather go semi-syn with shell helix hx7 10w-40? looking at the shell ones due that i get a good discount when i buy those.

in regards to transfer and diffs, which oils and grades are recommended?

lastly, oil filter for the sv420 is it the same as the one from the 1.6 carb vitaras?

thanks in advance

Oil grade is stated in the manual for your car. Check the ryco website for the filter?

Ryco website is wrong as iv just found out. The 97-98 and 98+ are labeled the wrong way round.

Thanks Daly87,
That is exactly what i assumed, as I have read that there were a few parts that were labeled wrong etc. So which one would fit, or easier just to take the old one off and match the new one?
The car did not come with the owners manual either, (would have been my first step to look into for oil), hence why wanting to see what other sv420 owners are
using.

Thanks

fair enough,

The penrite website has a fairly good lubricant recomendation thingo.

http://www.datateck.com.au/Lube/PenriteAus/

engine: 10W-40
manual transmission: 75W-90
differential: 80W-90
4wd transfer case: 75W-90

You can also just look at the filter on the car right now to see what filter is on it, though that is assuming it has the correct one on it already.

98+ = z389
97-98 sv420 = Z464 - but the cheaper multifit z440 will work for this too.
