So today I spent some time dicking around with throttle bodies on my M18 Jimny and noticed that there is oil in the intake manifold and the back of the throttle body is covered in oil too. Is my engine fucked or is this nothing to worry about?   - Tim. |

checked your PCV valve isnt blocked? |

I tested the PCV valve by removing it from the rocker cover and putting my finger over the valve while the engine was idling and it had good vacuum. I also took the PCV out, gave it a shake and it rattled as expected although it is full of oily residue. - Tim. |

I've not looked at mine in yonks - but when i had a carby g13 engine in the sierra i had a bit of residue and it was fine... i just wrote it off as "vapours" in there... realistically its such a minute amount, the engine is going to burn it no worries if it makes it into the cylinders. You could give it a good clean out and monitor it over say 1000km to see "how bad" it is i suppose? |

Id be doing this, clean everything, even go to town on the inlet manifold with some spray carby cleaner. And see how it is after a week. Another thing to do is with the engine idling, take the oil cap off, how much air comes out? some is expected. But if its like an exhaust pipe it might be an indication of worn rings, which leads to excessive amounts of air/oil being sent to your inlet manifold, which creats the mess you see. Which isnt an issue really, just normal wear and tear. Pesumably the engine runs alright? and gives good fuel economy? Be aware that it may spit drops of oil at you..dont do it in your best shirt... You also might find that it is just years of oil build up and is not an issue. |
