Hi has anybody any experience with these types of lights.
55w h3 lights if that means anything.
Im thinking they might be good as I dont have a front bar to mount too or roof racks.

in wa there's a limit to the number of forward facing lights inst there? would be better if they were 55w h3 HID lights, with spot and spread configurations |

Pretty sure most states have restrictions on the number, configuration, colour and height of forward facing lights... wouldn't have a clue what the WA details were. I've looked at those Jeep-style pods, but never really investigated them. Most fittings for halogen lamps can physically be adapted to take HIDs, legality is a different question again. |

So darkhorse, was the reason you didn't buy any because of legality? Have you ever seen how good these are? I didnt know there was a legal limit, I see so many around with spotlights everywhere. |

That was pretty much it. Effort to fit and wire them up not worth the payoff. LED bars much better result, and easily removable if necessary. |

I still haven't seen led lights that work better then a good hid light. The lights on my wife's NGV use a total of 110 watts and give around 1.5km of awesome bright light. |

Although not HID's, I prefer my lightforce 240's over the 42" cheap LED bar on my SS ute. That said, there's a heap of difference between a cheap bar (what most people run) and the good ones like rigid industries and great white..... |

My point is 1.5km is just a little bit of overkill, switching to low beam for oncoming vehicles would be like you've turned all your lights back to the parkers! Your eyes will have adjusted to the super bright HID's and low beam is when you will be blind and at risk of hitting something. |

So you would have shit lights just because you have trouble adjusting to low beam light? I regularly drive at night and it isn't unusual to see no other traffic for 2 or 3 hours. City logic just makes no sense to me

Almost twice the power use so I would expect them to be almost twice as bright. I have factory narva d1s hid lights and also had a 100w quality Cree led light bar I removed the light bar because I couldn't tell when it was turned on or off. |

Actually looking at your photo it shows the failings of led quite well. Things look bright as the light goes every where, however the tree that is 100ish meters in front of the car is hardly visible with led However with hid you can clearly see that there is nothing hiding under the tree waiting to hop out in front of ya. |

it's well over 100m but yeah for your use on dead straight roads it's no good but for roads that have corners I certainly don't rate hid |

I rewired some halogen Lightforce 240s and a 20" lightbar on a friend's 80 series and once a proper loom was installed the Lightforce 240s absolutely shat all over the lightbar in terms of output. Also are those pics above showing the output of an LED lightbar, cheapo 'work light' style LED spotlights without proper optics or a pair of LED spotlights utilising properly focused LEDs shining backwards into a quality reflector? |

The LED's (shown above) light up a lot more scrub off the road side immediately in front of the vehicle - that's where I've always found the wild life suddenly appears from. |

That is why I have factory hid and not retro fitted kits. The light out of the front of my NGV is so awesome that I couldn't tell if the quality led bar was on or off. |
