Post subject:  I just bought a Jimny!

I guess this is the place to start.

I just purchased a 2000 Jimny and now the Fun starts! The purpose of this car will be to take me to the mountains and get me into the backcountry. I do a fair bit of snowboarding outside of resorts and some of the approaches can be difficult in winter.

I guess I have a fair few questions and am very new to the 4x4 thing.

My plans for the little beast are this:

    K&N Air Filter
either Hankook Dynapro MT RT03 or BFG All Terrain A/T KO tyres 215/75/15
    new exhaust system with extractors
    lift kit

So to the questions
Is a 1.75 exhaust system the ideal option?
What would be a good lift kit that will not require to many modifications?
Will i be able to put the 215/75/15 tyres on before the lift kit?

Any recommendations on a muffler that will give it a good sound would be great.
also and finally
Any recommendations for a good suzuki mechanic/ workshop in Melbourne. I am on the northside but do not mind travelling for a good guy who knows what their doing.

So there it is, first post done. Thanks in Advance from the zook noob
cheers
Andy

congratulations on the new ride!
k&n filters are a gimic and i wouldn't recommend using one. their fiddely to get oiled and if you stuff it up you dont get popper filtration. they do not filter as well as a paper filter.
never having driven on snow i dont know much about it other then its similar to sand, so less agressive stops you sinking, along with surface area, so get a good compressor to air back up
a lot of us have exhausts. they dont typically make much difrence without extractors so your going the right way about that. just make usre its up out of the way.
i have a 48mm ss exhaust, lots of people have 2". on a 1.3 the 48mm is great, and a lot more torquey. very happy with it.
on lift, low is better, but stock springs are really really soft. my time again i wouldnt go 3", id go 2"(to get a aftermarket spring this as as low as you can go) with a 2" body lift.
i have way to much lift but thats to keep the body high and out of the water as much as i can on creek crossings.
215/75s will fit without lift on stock 5.5" rims from what i have seen /heard.

I have 215 dynapro mt's and they fit fine with no lift in. they scrubbed for a week at full steering lock in reverse on some lumpy ground so no problems in my book lol but are now fine.

Andy

Before you spend too much money why not come along to a Vic Suzuki Club meeting and talk to a few people. http://www.vic.suzuki4wd.com

If you are after a good mechanic I have used Cammo Offroad but he is on the opposite side of town to you. http://www.cammoffroad.com.au/ He was recommended to me and I was pretty happy with his work.
