Post subject:  Jimny bar
In trying to avoid paying $1200 for a front bull bar for the jimny, (arb is too expensive and I'm not a huge fan of the xrox bar)... Would the old Sierra bars fit on the jimny chassis? Would there be a lot of altering to get it to fit? Will the bar loops be high enough and long enough to go around the head lights of the 2006 jimny?

the sierra bar isnt gonna fit, i doubt it will be within a mile of ever fitting.

Yeah, I wasn't sure on the dimensions of it but I wanted to see if it was an option. In pictures it looked like it wouldn't fit

might be worth taking notes on some designs then getting one fabed locally if there's a local shop that doesn't have a lot of work on.
unless you can do it yourself of course.

actually it would also be interesting to see if Uneek can supply their bars flatpacked, and you weld them up yourself.
they even do boats this way these days and it would save a fair bit of space in transport...

DO IT!!

make one from card board first, then that way you know what steel you need, be cheaper that way....

ill probably do one when footy finishes in 6 weeks...

I made this for Greenzooks Coily. Cost me no more that $300 in steel, bends and paint

If you have to pay someone 2 days labour to make a custom bar then you're better off buying one off the shelf unless your fabricator works for free or is based in a 3rd world country.

And if you are going to actually fab it yourself and aren't in the trade or pretty experienced, allow heaps of time - talking from the experience of just finishing one myself.

^This. I spent a day trial fitting bits and a couple hours out of 3 afternoons welding. If you rush it you will only end up more frustrated when you have to cut and reweld stuff.

Thanks for the advice, I'll probably buy one off the shelf or second hand because I don't have skills or tools to build it on my own and it would be $$ to get one made

Making front bars is hugely time consuming and getting a professional result requires fairly advanced fab skills. I wouldn't recommend it if a commercial bar is available to do the job you need.
