So I purchased a brand new 2013 Jimny, after about 6 months it started to rev at a higher RPM than what it used to. When traveling at 100km/h rev meter is hitting close to 3500 RPM in 5th gear... Just seeing if anyone has had the same problem and if so whats caused it and what i can do to combat the situation. |

Need a lot more info. Are you running any mods ie. bigger tyres? Mine sits on 3400rpm in 5th with 215/75r15. What type of fuel are you using? 95ron is the fuel most suited for my model (08) at least. 91ron=severe loss in power but same fuel usage. 98ron=No increase in power and higher fuel usage but smoother and slightly higher rpm. Servicing up to date? Have things like air filter and plugs been changed as well. How heavy are you on the load pedal? May cause some gumming up of the works. Has the throttle body been given a good cleanout? How much weight are you carrying? Do you have things like a high sitting roofrack that creates a lot of wind resistance? Few things to consider. Okay Its stock at this time there's been no mods at all. running the stock allow rims and tyres and all servicing is up to date via mechanic and log book. No roof rack and mainly only me and the misses are in it, i only weigh 70ish Kg Using Premium Unleaded 95 (Vortex) Recommended by my Suzuki Dealer and mechanics all fuel is purchased from Caltex Not heavy on the throttle, only been off roading about 4 time and nothing major just tracks a little mud Was running a lot better in the first 6months and revs werent as high as the are now could it be anything to do with the belts? My mechanic at suzuki is useless and says theres nothing wrong with it but wont do anything. Ill get the throttle body cleaned out and see if that makes an improvement |

Your gearing can't change, auto transmissions can flare, and manuals can get burned clutches, but the Autos show symptoms on acceleration and shifting, manuals you won't move anywhere and the clutch will stink. 3500 revs at 100 is low for a suzuki at 100mk/h in any case, your dealer might be onto something..... |

Yep, my money is with the "mechanic who is useless" - I really don't think anything has changed. When you're in gear and your foot is off the clutch, the wheels are physically connected to the engine. The revs can't vary at the same road speed. Really, they can't. The only possibility is that you've burned your clutch out in 6 months, and it's slipping all the time, but I don't think this would only appear as a problem at 100 km/h - I don't think you'd be able to get to 100 km/h if the slip was that bad. Scorp, I'm interested into your troubleshooting process there - how could any of those things you mentioned adjust overall gearing on a manual car, which is what the OP is claiming? Steve. |

Buy a $19 obd 2 reader and get the torque app. The tacho in your dash may have lost calibration. Weirder things have happened. |

Gwagensteve, Just chasing more details on the OP's vehicle. Definitely not meant as a diagnostic flowchart. Only used examples that I know from the usage of my own vehicle. Two guys from around my area brought brand new Jimnys and heavily modified them from day dot. Much better to try and pinpoint where a potential issue may lie with a bit more knowledge available to guys like yourself. As revealed by the OP's second post you know the car is stock standard and he's provided a little insight into daily usage and what he's found out so far. Now you can go from there. Scorp |

So the OP takes the time to answer your seven questions. Which of the seven answers would allow you to assist in him understanding why his revs have changed at the same speed over 6 months? Quote: examples that I know from the usage of my own vehicle So which of the seven parameters you've outlined changed your road gearing?Sorry I'm being aggressive about this. It's clear the OP has limited mechanical knowledge. Asking them to answer a bunch of non-relevant questions plants the seed for them that these things might affect cruise rpm, when that's not the case, confusing them further about the mechanical mysteries of their vehicle. The only relevant questions are "is the clutch slipping" and "have you put big tyres on it" nothing else will make a blind bit of difference. Steve. |

Gwagensteve, I understand that putting a question mark behind the points would have been in correct, but how is "is the clutch slipping" and "have you put big tyres on it" the only factors to consider. I know for a fact that I am required to use slightly more rpm to achieve the same speed while the air-con is on. Did the 6 months ago thing happen instantly or is it a gradual thing. It may be based on a perception that something is wrong when in fact it might not be. As the first line in my post says "Need a lot more info". If I was incorrect in asking for info in this instance then that's fine. I realise I've probably over-complicated a possible non issue, but isn't it appropriate to ask. Scorp |

Mine does less rpm when I stick a heavy trailer behind it. Maybe there is a issue with 2013 jimnys. Will ask the dealer next time they do the 5000km tyre rotation for me. |

Oh, that's the response I was fearing. So, Scorp, how does your air conditioning change your gearing? If you work out how, you'll have my undivided attention. |

So I shouldn't have asked. ok I apologise to the OP for derailing the thread. Scorp |

Because only gearing can change revs at a set road speed. Nothing else (unless the clutch is slipping in a manual, or the converter is slipping in an auto, which i don't believe is the case) The engine and all its accessories (alternator, A/C compressor, power steer pump) turns together at the same speed. That's crank speed, the speed shown on the tachometer. The crank is physically connected to the input shaft of the gearbox via the clutch or torque converter. Beyond that point, what gear you choose determines revs at road speed. Nothing else. Not whether the air con is on, not what fuel is in the tank, not what's on the roof. I can't be clearer. There's a locked physical connection. There's some small room for converter slip in an auto, but at 100km/h, the converter is locked on a jimny so there's no slip there. |

I have this problem with my sierra. It vibrates heavily ar 7500rpm plus. Can this be solved by installing a turbine? |
