Hi,

I need some opinions on which Suzuki 4wd
considering factors
-6k budget
-has to fit in some hunting/fishing gear*
-air conditioning
-power windows
-EFI

*I'm not sure if the SWB vitaras can fit a big pelican case (2 meters)

Is a LWB suzuki vitara jlx what i'm after?
1.6L 4 cyl or the 2.0 v6?
do they all have 4L + 4H + 2H?

I'm such at noob at this :(

Jimny with roof rack or whatever Vitara fits in that price range.

You'll get around an '01-'03 grand vitara for about that (the droopy eyed model, not the new shape).

But you're best to describe the type of driving it is that you plan to do as well - sounds like you're going to the beach and back though, which a GV would be great for.

Mainly driving on the roads during the week and the occasional trip once or twice a month on the weekends

The hunting trips are on dirt roads with little or no corrugation, some of the dirt roads go up little hills with heaps of rocks on the climb and I'd love to drive onto the beach :D

I'm leaning towards a JLX vitara 5 door but I'm not sure

Go Vit or GV for sure mate.

You get a lot more over a Jimny for very little extra cost, if at all.

I'm getting into hunting myself and my sierra is enough for two shooters and a small esky, but by the time you want more shooters and more supplies you just won't fit it.

Vits are very capable on 31s. Go for a v6 one.

Which is more reliable engine? the 4 cyl 1.6 or the v6 2.0?
I really don't think i need the extra power for now

Jimny is a little bit too small for some the gear im putting inside the car lol

Older G16bs have their issues such as cracking blocks and the H series I think is notorious for timing chain rattles.

Both are not common enough to avoid the vitara though. The v6 vit is a nicer car though.

For now you dont need the extra punch, but for little extra outlay the v6 would be nice. Although the g16 is easy to work on.

What are the main things that i need to look out for when looking to purchase a Vit?

These are probably the key things haha. They are all getting a bit old now so if general maintenance has slipped you have all the normal problems of an older car. Front diff housings are alloy and often crack, and also cvs are a week point so i would say check them. Damage there may also indicate other problems from it being used as a 4wd.

As for which one to get, I love my 1.6 LWB to bits and its super easy to work on and parts are cheap too. I crave more power now though and a gv can be had a few years newer for a reasonable price now.

I am looking to off my 01 GV for 5k. It has that price of bits on it along. JML bar, 9000 lbs Bushranger, roofrack, rear drawer system, mild suspension lift, 225/75R16 Cooper STT's, 5.12 gears, tow bar, full float rear kit (yet to be installed which owes me approx $1300) ect ect.
The timing chain tensioner shat itself 8 months ago so I had my workshop fit a second hand engine and runs like a dream now. I need to get rid of it as wifey needs a new car, can't drive the GV and her car is worth less then the $710 I just paid in rego.
I am in Vic and $500 will freight the car to Sydney or Adelaid. IIRC it is about 800ish to Mackay last time I look at car transport but I could be off.
Let me know if you want pics and I will get some current ones.
