Hey zookers

Basically I have just bought a 2 piece fiberglass hard top for my soft top vit. I have a complete aircon setup out of a swb 1995 hardtop I just wrecked.

Question is, would it be worth fitting the aircon setup to the soft top, and also how much power does it take away from the car. My vitara is a g16b aw4 with 31s.

Any advice would be great

Do it
Have it in my Sierra, runs with minimal power loss on Gti engine.
On G16b it would hardly be noticeable.
I will be running it on my next build with your AW4 in it.

Sounds great Richard, I marswell fit it when I get around to it some time. I have my work cut out for the week removing and packaging the aw4 for you :)

I can't comment on a soft top with a fibreglass lid.... but if it seals it will work close to the same. Power loss is not too bad, even with a g13a.

It is well worth it.

I have a soft top Vit which now has a 2 piece fibreglass top. The difference with the new top is amazing! I remember the heat radiating into the cabin, and the soft top when touched felt like it was fire. With the fibreglass top the radiant heat is nearly totally gone, and only warm to the touch. The cabin temps after being left in the sun are much lower. The top is insulated with that weather/mould proof carpet which does a great job. Maybe apply some of this carpet is yours doesn't already have it. Or to make it even better, by a couple of those silver windscreen suns shades or purchase some of it off a roll from your local hardware, cut to size and glue them to the fibreglass. Then apply the carpet to the insulation, cool as!

As for sealing, I would recommend buying some 'high density adhesive backed foam tape' and running it along the point where the canopy meets the body. Mines seals so well that I found after fitting the top that I have to slam the door to close it when the windows are up. Being so air tight, the cabin is waaaay cooler and stays like that for longer, meaning the A/C compressor needs to cycle less = more power to the wheels and better fuel consumption! I have even found the heaters performance to be a lot better. Even on a freezing morning, I need to turn it down.

In short, the fibreglass top is way more effective at keep out the elements than a soft top, and shouldn't impact your power very much at all.

Hope this helps! :D

With my g16b (31"s) and aircon on, i definantly notice it. Not so much when cruising but more so when excellerating or climbing.

The system I have pulled out of the car had no gas in it so I am not to sure how good of condition it is all in. I am going to take it all down to the local auto electric air con bloke and have a chat with him about it I think. If he says it is all pretty good I will definitely wack it all In to the car

Hi I'm sorry if this is a bit far back to revive but I just have a question. Is it hard to convert the g16b to A/C? I have a 1996 efi model and a 1990 carb model with a fiberglass canopy, power steering and A/C and I wanna swap everything over to my EFI one and just wanna know what's involved in doing this. The dash in the 1996 looks more like the 2.0L with the 2 glove compartments and fuel/temp guages on the sides of the dash not in the middle. Hoping it all should just bolt in.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
