Looking to get a light bar soon so I can do more night time dune running. Thinking a 10w single row Chinese item.

The car is a 2015 Jimny. Thinking of sticking it in the bumper and wiring directly to the stock off-road lights. Should I set it up on its own separate relay and switch or will it be fine? I do not drive with the off-road lights on normally and would only ever switch on the same time as the light bar.

Own switch and relay.

Own switch and relay is the best.

If you want to muck around some more you could measure the current draw of the existing circuit and calc/measure the lightbar draw to see if the circuit would support it. It means you would lose both sets of lights at once when yhe fuse blows.

Cheers guys. Sounds like I am doing this one properly. Will try and get a genuine off-road light switch and install for the light bar. The other advantage is if I am following someone at night I can run just the off-road lights

All you need is any toggle switch, and a simple 30amp relay.
No special switches required. If your unsure of how to wire it, just take a look in the good tech section. I believe Royce and a few others have some good write ups about using relays.

Glad you chose the right way to do it :)

The oem switch is more of an asthetics thing as I should be able to get at a good price. Cheers for the info
