Hi, after taking my drover to the mechanic for a check the other day, I found out that my carby has various linkages missing and I was told that I might as well buy a new carb. So, I'm wondering which carb to buy? Do I buy a stock one or can I buy a new one that'd be better? The motor is the g13a. Cheers |

How does the car start when cold and run well when warm? If it's starting and running fine then why fix the problem? If it's running like a bag of crap then fair call. Did he say what exactly was missing? Does the rest of it work ok? Of so perhaps look for a crapped out carby that has the linkages you need and replace them on yours I'd question if the auto choke etc is functioning of someone's felt the need to remove linkages. Options as I see them. 1) buy a crapped out carby with the bits you need and use them on yours 2) send it for recon, recon guy might not like finding the bits you need so maybe option 1 followed by option 2? 3) Webber carby, not expensive to buy new (non-genuine Webber style) and easy to fit and setup. I'm not fond of them but they are easy and work ok. Lots of guys here do like them even if I don't. 4) see tech section on Corolla carby, no experience with it myself. 5) my favourite, of its not causing a problem leave it alone. Post pics here of the carby and we might be able to tell what's missing and how it will affect the car. |

The motors running rich, however it starts well. It runs a little rough though. The linkages near the butterfly are missing, there's a spring going across the top of it that i think is holding the choke on?? I think I'd rather just buy a new one and get it tuned properly. |

If you want to buy new and tune, I'd go a weber in that case. If not find a good condition aisin,I think they are great when not flogged. I leave mine for sometimes up to weeks at a time and it always seems to start first crank (I don't mean the first bout of cranking, I mean 1st 360 degrees of rotation) |

I don't recall the exact weber carb people run. It is well documented here on Auszookers and probably on a by vehicle list somewhere. |

The most common Weber used on a G13 or G16 8-valve is the DGAx 32/36 series. The "x" indicates the choke system - water, electric or (I think) mechanical. You can buy a Chinese-made Weber with a mounting kit at most aftermarket vendors world-wide. Another choice that has become available in the USA recently is a stripped-down remanufactured OEM Hitachi called the HIMSHI. It is remanufactured for Zuks Offroad and is a direct bolt-on unit. No muss, no fuss, no electronics. However - if your local environmental authority is very strict on emissions, the HIMSHI (and pretty much any other aftermarket carby) may not allow your Drover to pass an emissions test. Put an ad in the I Want It section and see what comes up. Alternatively google suzuki sierra Weber and buy a new one, it will be a chinese copy but will work fine. I put one into my SWB and just didn't like it at all. It doesn't have idle up for when your cranking the electrics. I don't like the choke mechanism on it compared to the original carry and it was all just a bit.... rudimentary... Having said that it does get ups for its simplicity, yesterday I removed it from my prize SWB put it into one of my LWB's and it's doing a great job there! This LWB had a knackered stock carby, no choke, no idle up, leaked a lot, so this is a great step up (unfortunately for you, because i was considering selling the Weber with only 500kms work on it). When you get one of the Chinese copys, make sure they come with a modified hat so it adapts to your airbox. It is important that this is done well (IMO) so it's drawing its air supply through the air cleaner and not sucking air in through the hat. |

The G13BA heads are all the same, if you get manifold with the kit you should be fine - if you have the manifold for the stock Aisin carb, it can be made to work. |
