Ok I have spent hrs looking through the net looking for ppl that have upgraded axle spindles on vitara I have a triton diff centre identical to vitara just lhs tail shaft so centre upgraded want to put larger axle ends in so has anyone heard of bigger spindles being added to the vitara getting brand new shafts made so just need to get front set and back on ground for measurements cheers

What benefit are you trying to get from different spindles? The axles snap at the diff on the rear or cv at the front.

No need. Way more weak links in the chain

Ok cool thanks guys that was really my issue I'm trying to put the v8 to the ground didn't want to rebuild all the Suzuki stubs then find they won't cut it so it's the diff end that's the week link?

Rockman, are you widening the front end to fit some larger CVs? Considered a making the rear a full floater?

Widening no well not that I'm aware of as triton diff fits in perfectly just a matter now getting cv made triton one end vit the other as ppl have said the stub axles are large enough triton diff going in rear as well as the mk is exact same width as the vit just have to change leaf to coil what are u saying full floater being?

Who said the stubs would be strong enough? You were asking about the spindles, which are used with the hilux cv conversion so I don't see the spindles being a problem.

Agreed. Where did you read a Triton diff fits in perfectly? How many spline are the Triton stubs?

So u can put hilux shafts inside vitara spindle the tri.ton ones are way to big to put inside spindle and really long what I'm asking is that the outer side of all workings to be strong enough as it seems it's only the diff end that sheers off where shaft is drastically smaller on the male side

Gday zook fan the triton front I have already fabed to fit there identical just metal and shaft is on lhs to suite triton transfer rear diff is next exact same track hub face to hub face just have to change from leaf to coil

Post subject:  Re: Front axle spindles

If they are really identical except the for offset for the transfer than the cv's will not be strong enough for your application. If the Triton parts are larger (I expect they would be) then you would be better off using the whole axle assembly, using the spindle if you have too and adapting the assembly to the knuckle. More than likely there will be too much interference at the back of the knuckle and you will have to shave it down to fit like a hilux to GV conversion. Once that was ruled out as a good idea you'll be grabbing the Triton suspension system to graph onto the front end. I'd definitely be talking to the engineer about this first as I wouldn't be signing this conversion off.

Yes a hilux shaft fits inside the vitara spindle but it is at least 4" longer than the vitara stub.

Your posts are quite confusing. Out of the 4 posts so far in this thread you've talked about something different? If you're serious about putting a V8 in a Vitara and you want some reliability pull out the front suspension, diff and axles. Design from scratch using far heavier components. Or swap to a solid axle.

Yeah mate v8 is fitted now in process of modifying sump around diff housing the triton one is bout 4 inch longer too but dose not fit inside spindle tube triton dose not have a removable spindle which is a pain it is part of wishbone assembly and they use a tortion bar setup so no good for vit solid axle hmmm could depending if I could get engineered I have spoken to one veigley and it seems as long as u don't chop weld the chassis then there should be no prob I'm guessing u would be butchering a fair bit to fit in a solid axle ?

Post subject:  Re: Front axle spindles

Will it fit if you remove the bearing from the back of the spindle? Can you slide the axle through the front of the spindle or is it that much physically larger?

No idea how much butchering you would have to do, I haven't really looked. It's been done:

Na it won't fit it her end a place in wa can splice spindles from triton over but not sure of the hassle if vit ones at that end are sufficient enough

Honestly sounds like this conversion is going to end in tears. Good luck with the project.

My main interest in this thread was the possibility of easily sourcing a stronger front differential - but it's slowly dawning on me, that identical apparently does not mean identical.

Post subject:  Re: Front axle spindles

It's not identical. From what I can gather from the posts it is a mirror image of the Vitara diff. The diff centre is offset to the passenger side not the drivers like a Vitara is.

The 4 inches longer is referring to the stub axle shaft.

That is my interpretation of the information presented here.

Yeah it's a mirror image mate perfect interpretation same length just steel 4.9 ratio front and back tho steel tube side unboltes and could be swapped to other side to stay with vitara configuration as its not a casting it's tube steel so a possibility for Suzuki transfur

Post subject:  Re: Front axle spindles

I have no idea what is going on here.

It sounds to me as if the vitara diff and triton diff are the same when the steel tube is swapped over. The total drive line width is also the same. But the Triton axle stubs that enter the vitara hub are thicker/different count.

So if the OP does something like this with just the outer stub axle everything will fit:

Is that what is happening here?

What transfer r u going to use. I dont think the vit one would like a v8 in front of it. Just use lux cv kit with a new adaptor to suit what ever the end of the triton diff is. If they are not strong enough get rcv for it.

Post subject:  Re: Front axle spindles

I think it's using the triton transfer, hence the LH front diff.
