| Post subject: | 2001 XL7 engine noise |
Hi everyone, First time post here and I have had a look through the forums but wanted to see what the general consensus was. I have a 2001 XL7 that has done 170,00 kms. It has a light rattling sound coming from the engine. Kind of like something is a 'bit loose' somewhere. I took it to the local mechanic, who by all accounts is pretty honest, and he told me the sound is very much like a gudgeon pin noise, but also said there was a less chance it involves the timing chain. He is not a Suzuki specialist by all accounts, so I was wondering what people around here think is the most likely problem (without being able to hear it themselves). What is the more common problem with these engines? Thanks in advance |

Does it sound like it's coming from the front of the engine? 99% probability it's timing chain related. |

H motors have a self adjusting timing chain tensioner just give it a few good revs (redline) for a sec and the adjuster should jump a tooth, i had to do this with Kates car recently and has gone quite again |

Whats the service history like? They can suffer from sticky lifters also. Is the noise there all the time or only after start up? |
