So, i have an sj413 with a G13b from a gti swift (dohc efi) no idea who did the conversion - wiring or otherwise. Has an electronic fu Problem, turns over and that's pretty much it... eventually it fires but nearly flattens the battery in the process it take so long. Starts if I push it. Has fuel in the tank, haven't checked lines or anything yet but i can hear the fuel pump working, it's really rather loud, Took it for a drive it stalled same thing... only fired when pushed, got home noticedmaf was filthy cleaned it fired straight away... (this may have been the contact cleaner acting as an aerostart though) Let it still next day, won't start, managed to get it to fire eventually. Tried last night to prime the crap out of the fuel system as the fuel pump primes for a couple of seconds then switches off while on then starts and stays on after the car cranks and starts. No avail car still won't start. I've got another fuel filter that I might just put on but Ihave a feeling theres something else... Should the gti engines have a scan port? That I can plug and obd2 or similar into? Should sn electric fuel pump be loud enough for me to hear? |

I don't believe GTi motors are OBDII complaint. I'd suggest checking for fuel pressure at the rail. Check for consistent voltage at the fuel pump when cranking. I can't comment on fuel pump noise without knowing how the pump was set up. If it's an external pump, it should have a lift pump as well as the HP pump. If it just as a HP pump, it's not going to be happy - they're not designed to pull fuel out of the tank, only push it. Steve. |

The GTi motors are NOT OBDII compliant, and not all GTi ECUs have the wiring for the SDL port, some cars had the port under the dash but if the wiring was traced back, it went nowhere. |

Yeah the fuel pump will switch off once there is pressure in the system. Sounds like a cold start issue. It starts when pushed because of the load but still can stall. Does it ever stall when hot? Does it start easier when its been driven and still warm? It also could be as simple as weak spark. How is the ignition system? When the last time the plug have been changed? If they are old pull them out, clean them and gap them. If it starts easier buy new plugs. |

When the car is cranking the battery voltage will be reduced. Maybe check all the earths which might be dirty or lose. This might mean there is insufficient voltage making it to either the fuel pump or ignition circuit when combined with the drain on the battery from cranking. Just a thought. If you have a voltmeter do some checks on the voltage drop while someone is cranking both at the battery and on various circuits. |
