Gday guys, Just bought a 98' Jimny, it's completely stock and I was looking at getting some new boots for her  I'm looking to widen my footprint, so originally I was looking at getting some 215s, but I saw someone somewhere say that you could put 225s on to gain a little more width? Would the stock jimny engine have enough go to push that rubber around? Also would I need to redo the gearing? I do a fair bit of driving at 100 as well so it needs to be able to maintain highway speeds. Cheers |

225 will only give you ~5mm more width each side on the same rims. 225/75 r15 in MT are limited in choice The car wont mind the extra width only the extra diameter. You may need gearing depending on what terrain you drive In mud, if that is what you need a muddy for, a narrower tire wins. Particularly on light 4wds like Suzukis. I had 215/75 AT's on my Jimny and they were fine without gearing. If you need more track width consider offset rims. IMO get 215/75 r15 MTs |

^^ couldn't agree more! 215's are the way to go on a jimny. Gearing is still liveable depending on what you drive. A much more common size and the narrow tyre helps in mud! If you want more width, add spacers or offset rims |

Yeah I've had a ring around and there really isn't much choice in 225. I think ill just get 215 with maybe a -12 or -13 offset. thanks for your help mate |

Personally, I'd leave them on standard rims. Jimny's are very sensitive to increased load and leverage. The closer you can run to stock offset the happier the car will be. |

Ive read a few things online, but not sure how they go on Jimnys. just looking for something as bank friendly as possible. |

I run them on my lwb, they are a bit stiffer than sime of the cheapies but are quieter than some all terrains ive had and perform well in all aspects offroad. Mine are 8 years old (100,000kms +) and still all over 50% tread |

If your after something as cheap as possible, jump on gumtree for your local area (don't know where your located) and have a look at what tyres are around. I just picked up 4 new MT's fitted and balanced for $119 a corner. They are a Chinese brand but look the goods and have a tried and tested pattern so it's worth a shot! Otherwise, Hankook make great tyres, I've only had Dynapro AT's on, but they were excellent, so I imagine their MT's to be the same. |

No a 215 won't scrub. Remember suspension lift does nothing to fit bigger tyres. |

My uncle's jimny scrubbed the front of the rear wheel arches with 215 km2's under compression. That also meant at 80km/hr going over dips in the road. It would occasionally lunch the clips that hold the rear flares on through distortion in the panels. He never took to it with a hammer though.... |

Offset can have a lot to do with a tyre clearing or not, keeping them inside the guards helps. |

I had scrubbing with my 215 75 r15 hankook mt's but only at full lock and only just catching a bit of plastic at the front, more annoying than damaging but the new front bar and lift (3 inch) have fixed that (ether would have done the trick). |
