:hey:

Going to look at a 1999 GV later today, 2.5l V6, auto, 177,000k
From a dealer so comes with a 'RWC'

Doesn't look like it's ever seen dirt from the photos, so checking low range is still working, plus the normal leaks, squeaks and rattles.

Is there any specific niggles I should be keeping my eyes out for?

Timing chain rattle.

Test it in 4x4 and make sure the diff doesn't suffer from the 'bang' problem that some of the early ones did, where a design fault can cause an almighty clunk.

It'll be an alloy front diff, although I am sure you knew that.

Other than that, they are pretty strong. The engines are very reliable (timing chain rattle notwithstanding) and the auto is a good one if it is not abused.

Looked at it with b4t.. Seems mechanically sound.

Timing chain was fine. Will line up a steel diff and auto hubs, maybe an auto locker if I buy it.

What auto came with them and what maintenance is needed?
IE basic flush fine or do solonoids etc go at 100k?

Can't find too much info easily.

It's an AW-4. should outlast the rest of the car without much attention.

Steve.

A bit of a weird one, but the early GV's seem to be more prone to rust under the tailgate rubber.
That's fairly low km for the year - should have plenty of life in it.
Good luck,
Michael

Not weird and not isolated to early models, either. My brother and I both have 2004 models and his has rust under that rubber and after finding his I checked mine and noticed the very beginnings of what could have been nasty rust. Thankfully I stopped it before it became more than some dirt and surface rust, but nothing specifically singles out the earlier models to be more prone to this than the later models, apart from time.

Time for a service.
I've been told genuine Suzuki filters only.

Until I get a service manual what spec oil for diffs, gearbox and auto?
And how fussy are they?

Is there an online FSM available?
