I am about to buy a Grand Vitara 2000 2.5 V6 with 300000 on the clock, seems a very nice car and runs well. I am thinking of changing the cam chains water, oil pump seals etc cause of it's miles. What are the best brand parts to buy. Is the cheap ebay stuff rubbish? Where is the best value place to buy parts from. Cheers. |

Have a look at Megazip. OEM parts sent from (usually) Japan. Prices are normally reasonable to good, reliable service and heaps of parts you can't buy here. |

Picked her up today, just got home. Drove very well, got 8.5L / 100km! Very impressed. Not as nice as I had hoped and lots of little things need replacing. The rear door handle broke when I went to open the back door and hour after I bought it. lol Very rattly cam chain but he had been using heavier oil and non genuine filter. Will go the genuine filter and 5w30 oil. I think I will do the cam chain kit and the water and oil pump as well just to be on the safe side. Hopefully it will make 500,000km. |

500K would be well beyond the design parameters of the engine as installed. Air filtration, sealing of the dipstick and maximum permissible engine speed - an fact, a whole host of things will make it very unlikely for that motor to last that many km. I'm not being a hater, just realistic. Small japanese motors just aren't designed for that service life. The low revving low KW/Litre, very heavily constructed 1fz toyota motor (4.5 petrol 80) was designed for 500k life before a rebore and upsized pistons, but few make it that far. They also have very, very superior air filtration. By all means do all you can to stretch the life of the motor, but you need to be realistic about the design of the motor. |
