Got two questions:

Was there any appreciable difference between the LJ50 and LJ 80 front brakes? {ie diameter, swept area etc} Have looked online but can't seem to find anything on brakes other than "drums".

I understand it's possible to fit discs to the front of an LJ80, but can it also be done to an LJ50?

If so, with what parts from what vehicle? {ie Sierra 1.3; 19XX Corolla/Datsun/whatever}

Get some 1.0L knuckles to locking hub including hub, spindle, rotor and caliper

To bastardise the CVs
Cut the 1.0L shaft, as close to the cage as possible, then spin the ccage to pop out the rest of the shaft.
Cut the CV off of the lj50 shafts.
Clean and grease it all.
Insert the lj50 shafts into the 1.0L CVs.

Install the lj50 axles/1.0L CVs, and 1.0L knuckle

Doesn't have to be 1l swivel hubs, you can use any leafy Sierra swivel hubs. You can even use drum brake 1l swivel hubs if you really want to. 1l/coily/Jimny CVs must be used though. They're $50 each on eBay new which is sooooooooo worth it over trying separate bloody CVs from axles.

You can get the axles off the CVs by using a pipe longer than the axle and is the right diameter to sit on the star. Slide the axle/cv assembly into the pipe and smash it into the ground, the inertia pulls the axle out of the CV. For me this worked great with LJ CVs but poorly with Sierra CVs.

I did try and rig a puller using my vice and a high lift jack but I decided I was either going to kill myself or pull my shed down.

You need to do something about the brake lines. Sierra ones can be fitted but they're a little short and the chassis mount is a little different, they can be made to work though. The best way would be to have custom lines made with the LJ inner and Sierra outer fitting.
