Post subject:  Jimny Suspension Advice please
I've owned a 2011 Jimny for about 2 years now. It has a steel bullbar and a winch. It's done about 120K km.
I would like to improve the suspension on it as it's a pretty rough ride, and after a day in the bush my back is complaining fairly loudly. (I'm 76)
I'm not worried about lifting it. I only do forestry tracks these days.
What would you guys advice ?

An old man emu kit (via ARB) will suit your needs well.

Sway bar disconnect (or complete removal) will make the front end more forgiving but will obviously increase body roll.

You gave me the right advice Steve.
I had an OME kit fitted last week.
It improved things no end both highway and offroad.
I went for the softer option - the one suited for no bullbar, no winch.
Very happy.

Ned Kelly ….what was the part number on those springs? A local fellow here in Canada wanted me to enquire about the springs and shocks you chose.


Off topic...In spite of our love here for western shoot up movies, I think only a handful of people here know of Ned Kelly.

As long as they are aware that OME Jimny kits are great for the OP’s situation.
IE;
“Just want a softer ride. Not interested in lift.”

All of the OME kits I’ve seen fitted to Jimnys do the above very well. If you just want to replace worn stock suspension with a new soft riding kit they’re perfect.
But if your looking for lift you’re best looking elsewhere or be prepared to add spacers in the front to level out the vehicle.

Hi Lebowski,

According to the invoice from ARB, the part numbers are :
Front 2963 Coil
OME028 Gas Shock
Rear 2966 Coil
OME029 Gas Shock

ARB recommended to fit the springs suited for a Steel Bullbar and a Winch on the front, which are a stiffer spring.
I opted for the softer no bullbar option as i was looking for a softer ride.
The result is that the Jimny is slightly 'nose down' in attitude (without a load in the back)
When I put my recovery gear and 10 litres of petrol, 10 litres water as well as a compressor and a few tools etc. behind the rear seats it evens out pretty well.
I am really happy with the result as it will give me a few more years of 'bush time'
