Big time noob question. Recently purchased a 95 SJ soft top and went to do the gearbox oil last weekend but the entry plug has been heavily burred and I can't get her off. My question is, is there a method to getting these plugs out in this condition. Maybe a way to come in through the top as an alternative? Thanks for checking this. Cheers, S |

you can remove the gearstick and pour it in the top, but the shifter bush may disintegrate which is always a bummer |

Cold chisel to make a groove and big pin punch in the groove to make it turn. The gearbox is the worst one to get to and mine took serious flogging to make it move. Luckily I had a spare transfer case to steal a plug off, because the gearbox one was destroyed in the process. |

Good luck.. I dunno what the guy that owned my Sierra before me had done, but the filler on the rear diff needed a big breaker bar to crack it, while the drain plug on the same diff was just over finger tight. Same with the gearbox, filler plug was mega tight and the fitting all burred over, but drain plug was hardly even done up... |

Thanks mate. On hold at the mo. Replacing Transfer case first. Hopefully give the GB another go next week. |
