Hi,

I was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction, I have a 2013 Jimny that has been converted to a hunting buggy. The main mechanical changes are an auto transfer case and 31inch wheels.

The vehicle gets driven 95% of the time in low range and not fast

What oils should I run, I didn’t think the standard oil recommendations would be best suited, but not sure what to replace them all with, ie engine, gearbox, transfer case and diffs.

Thanks in advance.

Replace them with the factory recommended oil.

No need to overthink it.

If the average aussie car does 14,000km/year, and the average speed is 60km/hr, then you've got roughly 233hrs of driving (right?) Jimny service intervals are 10,000km... so let's call it half of that 14,000km/233hrs = 116hrs for about 7,000km driving.

Make your oil change intervals around every 120 hours of driving =)

Average speed for most Australian cars is ~40km/h
When we commuted to the CBD daily from the country it was ~44km/h

Commuting from an inner suburb to Altona now (of which ~1/2 the drive is at 80km/h) my Utes long term average speed is 33km/h

I’d change engine oil annually. Diffs and transfer every couple of years or so.

Wow, never would have guessed the speed be that low (granted the amount of time we spend with the engine running at the lights significantly lowers it).

Use this and change it once a year with a new filter

Why dont you think the Std oil would be any good ? genuine query .

I would think Std oils would be the best thing for it , Its not a race car

Thanks for the input. Never thought to service at time intervals but makes a lot of sense for my use.

Regarding standard oils I just assumed because I was running it so slow that a different oil more tailored to just slow driving would have had an advantage. There was no science behind it, just my assumption. Lucky I didn’t do something stupid prior to asking.

Just be really on top of the cooling system and you should be fine!
