Hi all, I have purchased a 1987 holden drover with the 1.3 ltr engine. The car is doing some weird things. When i rev it up and let the throttle off the car almost stalls then goes back to an idle. Also noticed a few vaccum lines are not connected or missing, trouble is i cant find a good diagram that accurately shows where the lines are supposed to go to. Any help would be appreciated. |

The question is, are there any vacuum ports which aren’t blocked? If you have a vac line that is leaking or port unblocked then it won’t run right. With it sitting at idle, pull the ignition lead of one cylinder at a time and see if it runs rougher. You’ll find that most of the cylinders will run rough as soon as you pull the lead, and run better once the lead is back. One or two cylinders may not elicit a change which means they aren’t running right. Vac leak can cause this (among other things). All the vac lines, with the exclusion of the vacuum advance line which runs to the distributor, make small changes for the purpose of emission control. They can be removed and the ports plugged, or run from one port to something without a problem. The only thing that will mess with the motor running is when there’s air getting in where it’s not supposed to. Make sure your vacuum advance line is good and don’t worry too much about the rest. See if that fixes the idle problem |
