its back in - and works like a charm. had to invest $25 to buy the clutch tool
it was the disc !!!

ok, connected up the propshafts. (for those following the - full rebuild on engine, g.box and transfer) gears seem to work , so put in gear, press the clutch - and nothing. gears still engaged the cable is adjusted all the way - the spring is compressed and the left ( as you look from the top) adjusting nut is all the way forward the clutch feel like its going in, but clearly not releasing had a look at the manual and there's not much you can stuff up obviously i have is it possible to put the diaphram and/or the release bearings in backwards? it all went in fine, everything lined up perfectly |

i follows the manual and the punch marks on the shaft are slightly offset, so the arm is at about 30 degrees when the clutch is released |

Thrust bearing has fallen off the fork. If an 80 is anything like a 1.0, that’s what it will be. |

When the thurst bearing came out of place on my 1L (same setup) the clutch still kind of worked and it made the most god awful noise when you pushed the pedal in. There's little wire clips that hold the bearing housing to the fork, mine had the clutch done just before it happened and I reckon the mechanic didn't put them in. On mine the fork was touching the outside of the thrust bearing and it ate the fork pretty bad. The fork is a PITA to replace. |

out with the engine then. as i was using the g.box shaft when centering the clutch, now i need a alignment tool will this work? https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/17pcs-Clutc ... ctupt=true does anyone know the diameter - it looked pretty small to me, almost motorcycle size |

so unlike the sierra, you got to take the engine out to redo the clutch, right? because of the cross bar, you can;t slide out the tranny like other cars that i have done |

The clutch stays bolted to the flywheel and you don't need to disturb it at all to reinstall the release bearing. Correct, you cannot take the gearbox off the back of the engine while it is still in place. Either the engine has to come out, and you replace the bearing carrier onto the release fork with the gearbox in the vehicle, or you can take out the whole engine and gearbox assembly and separate the two components and do it on the bench/floor/driveway. |

i wont know till i separate the housing as to what's actually happened its either 1.the bearing -as the others say 2. i have put in the disc backwards. you can see in the attachement that it would bump against the bearing (see pic) 3. i have wrapped the pressure plate with uneven torquing of the bolts i bought the car not running, but all the bits were intact when i disassmebled everything. possible the previous owner put in one or all the incorrect clutch components. they all fitted in place, though, correct splines, correct diameter, correct dowel alignment |

ok, here's the phots nothing out of order - bearing ok, pressure plate ok, nothing broken EXCEPT the dics is the wrong way around and it has rubbers instead of springs - presumably some aftermarket cheapie if you have a look at the FSM diagram, you can see how the cone section of the base of the disc may bump against the fly wheel maybe fraction of a mil the surfaces look a bit grotty, but i had the flywheel machines and its all good so what's the vedict gurus? swap it ab back in? |
