Anyone make a rifle holder for inside the Samurai cab? Maybe some holder that allows the rifle to stand up right, or across the dash? Looking for pics / ideas please.

the average owner on this forum of a Samurai lives in australia. we have pretty strict gun laws, you unfortunately cant just drive around with a gun strapped to a dash or window of a car, we have to keep them locked in as gun case while transporting them. i know people mount tools to the back tailgate of tin tops. gun could be mounted at that spot.

As said above alot of us here are aussies and dont exactly own guns freely since theres alot of laws surrounding guns here mostly the being locked away when being transported and if not in the case they have to be in 2 safes with the main body being in one and the firing pin and ammo in another unless at a gun range.

Plenty of guys use them as a shooting rig here so there should be some ideas about. Mine sit between the seats with the barrel down the passenger footwell, I haven’t got a dedicated rack as such so I’m not much help.

Hey Spokerider,
check out fleabay and look for ATV rifle racks, there's a lot of different types available, also check out your local gun shop, also check you tube, I assume you will be transporting whilst hunting and on private property. Just remember, unloaded, magazine out and bolt removed while using these type of gun racks in vehicles, SAFETY FIRST !!!

LJ50 Frankenzook [originally a Tin top] mine sat on the dash in a couple of padded brackets with a rubber strap [we call them occy straps] to hold the rifle in place, or in a rooftop rack just in front of a hatch we cut into the roof, with deep sided narrow tray to hold ammo and magazines
After the roof rusted off, bracketry was welded to the roll cage for the threeoh, .243, and ithica37, and the dash bracket was kept for the 10-22

Depending on what seats are fitted, and how long the guns are, they can be carried upright (with a rearward tilt) between the door line and the seat and far enough rearward that they are behind the driver's shoulder and don't unduly obstruct the door opening. Some sort of fabricated sheet metal/leather/conveyor belt, bucket for the butt, and a fabricated, padded quick release clamp for the barrel. Works very well, is not obvious, but they can be seen, and security issues may arise. Nowadays Plod would not be impressed if he/she noticed them, regardless of legalities.

Spokerider,
Whilst we cannot drive around the streets with firearms on display in a vehicle, we can certainly do so on the farm!!!
My Sierra has 3 separate mounts. Between the seats and facing backwards is an upright rack that holds 3 long arms securely - made out of half inch fly, lined with a bit of old carpet. More for when you need the other option handy but you cannot access the rifles when driving. I tend to run 20" barrels on my varmint rifles so they fit under the roofline (not that I have a roof anyway...). I used some click fit "broomhandle grippers" from the local hardware store to hold the barrels and these work a treat.
#2 and the main mount for the primary rifle being used is upright with the butt of the rifle resting on a plastic boot on the passenger side floor. I used a surplus boot designed for Steyr AUG assault rifles, but really you could knock up a 2" high rectangular boot out of half inch plywood in about 10 minutes. All the boot has to do is hold the stock securely in place and align the rifle with the upper mount . For the upper mount I used a rubber coated broom holder and just gently pry apart the two arms until they are a snug fit on the rifle stock.
#3 is the shotgun and this sits between the folding windscreen and the dashboard. I have also used the rubberised ATV boots in the past, though on my Zook there is a shooting rest in that spot.
