Hey Guys, Just picked up an 89 SJ50 and was wondering if the front dash assembly (complete) from a later model would be a straight swap? Has anyone done it? Is it easy? and is there much fabrication or wiring that needs to go into doing the swap? Any help would be appreciated. |

Dunno!! For what that’s worth. I’m interested as I’ve thought about doing the same. I’m pretty sure the dash will fit in no problems, the heater/air vent ducting will be different but the instrument cluster could be interesting. Not sure how that would work |

I assume you want to put an SJ80 dash into your SJ50, which, being a 1989 car, will have the ugly WT style dash. (?) You'll need everything including the instrument cluster, ducting, and potentially the supporting tubular crossmember that runs behind the dash. It's been done many times. |

I was assuming being an SJ50 it was NT dash and wanting to move to the WT dash. I personally like the WT dash but each to their own  About wiring for the instrument cluster between the different models? Same plug and wiring or different? I haven’t got as far as investigating it but it is of interest. |

The early WT’s (plastic flares) were SJ50’s but definitely have the nasty rectangular dash. Can’t comment on cluster plugs. |

Thanks guys, if I can find one for a decent price I'll hook in and give it a go! As for the wiring, my best mates an auto sparky so a few cases of beer and he'll have it sorted! If anyone has done it I'd love hints and tips! |

We went the other way - 1989 SJ50 (W/T) original had W/T dash (big centre stack) but it was hacked about. Had a better complete N/T dash, so wacked that in. Can't remember if we used the N/T wiring harness that went with the dash, or modded the original W/T one to suit? It is a bolt in swap - if you have all the right bits. Rgs, Michael |
