hey all

i finally got my g16b coilpack motor into my engine bay with the gearbox mounted but im stressing on clearance. it looks like the thermostat housing has about 1mm of clearance if that from some random bolt and stud on the firewall and the gearbox mount doesn't line up with the holes on the chassis, i have loosened the engine mount bolts to see if the motor will slide forward anymore but it wont. should i just massage the firewall and then slot the rear holes to get it to fit ? or have i done something wrong that you can see from my photos below ?

Clearance at the firewall look pretty typical. The stud retains the heater box so there’s not much scope to move that. As for the fit at the gearbox mount- it’s just a rubber mount-just squish it over until the bolts line up.

Cover firewall with rag
Hit with hammer
Use pipe wedged between gbox and trans tunnel to wiggle around until gbox mount holes line up

thanks fellas that heater bolt on the firewall i just took the bolt out on the other side added some washes on the cabin side and then screwed the nut back on so it had just enough thread to grip and and puts the bolt far enough back from the thermostat housing that i can live with out worrying about it possibly rubbing.

Then the rear gearbox mount was odd i bolted the outside bolts on so the mount was bolted to the chassis first with the gearbox lifted off the mount then when i drop the box down the center was is some how perfectly aligned, got NFI how that works but it works.

onwards and upwards. until i come to another road block lol.
