Congratulations on being selected for Auszookers Zook Owner of the Month!
How does it feel being honoured with the nomination for Z.O.O.M. 2013?
Feels great, thanks for the nomination Shandy
So tell us about yourself. Who are you, What's the meaning to your username, Where do you live, and what do you do for a living? My name is Andrew, I'm 20 years old, I live in Mandurah which it a hour south of Perth. I have lived there all my life and have just purchased my first house there to. I'm a boilermaker/welder by trade working in the NT at a aluminium refinery in a placed called 'Gove' which is 650km out of Darwin. I currently work on a 3week on 1week off roster, but that will soon be changing. My user name started out as Monkey, but after a while it changed to Monley because Royce thought it wold be funny and it kinda of stuck.
How did you get started in Suzuki's & how many have you owned? It all started when I was car shopping for my first 4wd. I wanted a patrol but couldn't afford one at the time been a first year apprentice. A brand new hail damaged jimny come up at the right price so I got that instead. I never planned on keeping it for long or modifying it until I seen "zukenutters" jimny in 4wdaction in 2010 which opened up a whole new side of what a jimny could be. After searching around the net looking for info/pics on modded jimnys I ended up here and that's how it all started. I have owed 5zooks and currently have 2 which are 84 lwb tray back and 89 swb tintop.
How long did it take you to build your zook to what it is today? It has taken me 18months to completely rebuild my 84lwb to where it is today which has including coiling it. That is what has taken the time as I haven't done it before and was a big learning curve. I would do things differently if I was to do it again. My jimny took me around 2years to build until I was happy with it, then I rolled it and wrote it off.
Any changes in store for your Suzuki?Install the wiring for the g16b, paint the cab, build the tray and then hopefully drive it sometime in the next 6months
What has been your best modification? In the lwb I can't really say as I haven't used it yet. For the jimny is was reduction gearing and in the swb sierra I had it would of been RUF
What has been your worse modification?Once again not sure with the LWB. With the jimny is was putting larger tyres on with out gearing.
If you could have anybody else's zook, who's would it be and why?Once again 31zooks jimny because it ticks all the right boxes. Been able to DD it then drive it on some rather hard tracks and then drive it to work the next day again in one peace is awesome. It's what I would build again if was going to have another jimny. The other one would be g-wagens LWB. 35x13.5s on Suzuki gear and be very reliable -need I say more?
What has been your best 4wding trip?A long weekend in october 2011. It consisted of half a day at the 4wd adventure show, then a trip out to mundaring power lines(did lots of exploring- not just the usual track), then a trip upto 2rocks for some beach/sand dune driving then on the way home I called into k-town off roads for some mud/rock driving. Got to put the jimny through everything that weekend. Another good trip was in June(i think) 2012 where I went down to Brunswick/collie with Red89, shandy92 and a few other buggies. Hi-light of the trip was going up Bobs hill in under a minute in Simons zook (old McDonalds buggy).
If you could go to any place in the world to wheel, where would that be?Vic high country, New Zealand and the US.
Who are you closest to in the auszooker's community?Jezza86 and xxxxyy, not only because zooks are out common interest, they are both good mates that have helped me alot work wise and with the build.
Tell us what the wheeling is like in your area?20mins South from home there is alot of beach driving or about a hour away from there is is Harvey dam which has some nice big, steep, rutted hills which will put a swb zook on 31s to the test. I enjoy both so I get a good choice. Heading north about 90mins we have power lines which is not all that exciting anymore.
What other toys/hobbies do you put a lot of time into?I have a RC rock crawler that gets used very little, but apart from that nothing else. Spend most of my week off in the shed working the on the zook. I also enjoy a day of doing nothing when I'm home just to recharge the batteries after doing 180-220 hours in a 3week swing.
What is it about the auszookers that brings you back for more? The huge amount of information of zooks and the build threads.
What about the auszookers forum would you like to see changed?Nothing. I like it the way it is. I get what I log in for 90% of time which is looking at builds for idea and getting information.
Now for the million dollar question, who do you select to be the next Z.O.O.M. & why?It would have to be Neofitou because he is building a awesome zook under a tent and at that building it with very limited resources
