^^^ eggszackerly
zero need for them on a trailer, the hitch does all the articulating & the springs just soften the ride for what ever you're carrying.

this is a good tech thread... sorry you got tech advice. i'd definitely look at installing them for maximum hektics, maybe even double them up so you have them on the fixed spring hanger as well.

I thought I'd be smart and I bought a pair of VY alloy wheels for $10 off ebay to put on my trailer, but the stud pattern is different. I do have holden hubs on the trailer, I thought she be roight as I've seen VT wheels on a trailer before, so is there a difference in stud patterns between commo's ??

They had a 13" rim and it was the same as Toranas. A lot of trailers had this stud pattern. I think it's also the same as early Holdens that also had 13" rims.

I made a simple connect for the campers annex/ensuite/spare room. May make assembly a bit easier, and quicker. Took longer to think about than actually do. I decided to position annex on the rear of trailer (side of tent top) as erecting over the doorway would funnet rain right into the centre of the annex. Fitting to rear this way still gives tailgate access. Decided against fitting over drawbar, due to room it would use up, and inability to erect while car still attached. That decision took longer to think about than how to fit it .

Thinking of putting brakes on the trailer, looks simple enough. Next project for when I get time or motivation. Pix will come, if I decide to go ahead. Any advice or links appreciated.

Ive been looking at brakes since i got my camper, found this and thinking about it just waiting untill i stop getting bills so i can get it, If it will ever happen lol. http://www.pinnaclewholesalers.com.au/p ... RIC_BRAKESMuch cheaper than getting brakes by them self's and then needing to weld up plates etc etc, and less fuss too. and get a 3ton axle as well. Being in Melbourne may be able to pick it up and save transport costs too.

Yeah a bit over the top, but thought it was a good price for all one unit that all you need to do is bolt it on. Brakes by them self's cost more and was alot of fussing around welding on plates installing them etc etc.
It might be worth while seeing if they can get others. For me its perfect as have a 6x4 trailer with a 12ft tent and two anex's, the tent by itself weighs 250KG, more effort packing it up than setting it up as have to lift it back onto the trailer, def not a one man job.
Yeah but having a 3ton axle could take a good pounding, brakes are rated pretty high.
Saw brake controllers on ebay and other sites for 65 and up, some can be hidden under the dash with a control knob you can install on the dash so dont have this ugly thing sitting there.

A quick look round has found many traps to be aware of. Like pictures of whole kits when words say only part of whats needed. Better look with eyes open and brain on. Definately need a lighter combo, as my trailer only weighs 260kg, and is registered up to 500kg total weight. And a 1.6 needs as little weight as possible.

Do you want brakes for off-road or on or both. With a 260kg trailer I wouldn't of thought you'd need them.

A 3 ton axle with 12" electric brakes will weigh quite a bit. You will be decreasing the load you can carry for no benefit. I am guessing it would tip the scales around the 100kg mark. The last ones of that size I fitted to a trailer took 2 of us to lift them.
Get the right size axle and brakes for the trailer you have.
The one listed above seem too cheap for what it is. I know how much I pay for an axle assembly from my wholesaler (I get a pretty god price) and it is significantly dearer than that.

For me it would be perfect as have a two ton axle as standard, but guess the one i listed above would weigh a fair bit, price wise prob a Chinese import, doesn't mention of axle length either.
I thought my trailer had plates already welded to mount brakes but doesn't.
I went down a steep slope last weekend i have a standard bull hitch and it kept knocking, i didn't feel very safe going down, but it went ok, but if one of the tires sliped and went over, the trailer probably would of pulled me over with it. So brakes are on a high priority list for me, but have to do it to budjet, and read hydrolic brakes are more trouble than they are worth of road as brake on descents unless put a lock ring in, which defeats the purpose of having them in the first place.

I don't need brakes on the trailer under most conditions. But steep down hills off road I can feel the trailer pushing, when loaded. Though often braking is the wrong thing in some situations. And high speeds on road, I can feel a push under some conditions, mainly down hill cornerings.. Though the refitting of sway bar could help with this, too. (Yes I'm soft and have refitted my sway bar for longer touring trips) I could get away without brakes, don't legally need to have them. But if I can fit them affordably and light enough weight, it would feel safer. Also a set of caliper kits and new pads all round on the Vitara would help.

Anchor plates to weld to the axles to mount brakes are cheap ($15 each) and they aren't hard to fit.
If you already have a decent axle just buy drums and backing plates and it will be cheaper than the one listed above.

My black Jimny had a throttle cable in the cab so I could adjust the LSPV manually. Was handy to have control over it
