A few weeks ago my boy (15 in Dec) said he wanted to be a spray painter i didn't think much of it cause the week before he wanted to be a mechanic and the week before that was a video game designer  any ways two weeks later he says "dad i've been looking on youtube how to spray paint can i paint your old trailer :D " he had a fucking huge grin on his face so i thought why not

Very little prep work was done he jacked it up took the wheels off undone the tail lights and taped them up spent two mins with a wire brush and went to town with three cans of killrust black

I'm gunna get hold of an old car door or boot lid or something for him to practice prep work on

Definitely worth encouraging him to get into a trade. I spent 5 years at Uni and I reckon I would have been better off as an electrician. Might have enjoyed it more as well compared to sitting at a desk in front of a computer all day.

I spotted this little camper on the way back from the Snowies last weekend.

Looks ridiculous behind a landcruiser, but I recon it would be right at home behind a zook.

Went out to a wedding and camped
Finally got a better shake down. 500k round trip so all looks great for fraser.

Really want to put the 31s on but dont want to spoa the trailer. As my draw bar angle willgo to shit.

I have a set of lite 31 all terrains.
But want to extend the sides up to fit them rather than lift the springs.

Image

Reverse parked next to some tourers.
Just longer than them.
Also shows how low roof height of the zook still is :)

Normally yes, you don't want to load over drive gears excessively. However given your trailer is light and the nature of the sierra gearbox I wouldn't hesitate to drop it into 5th on flat ground and drop it back to 4th when you're going up hills.

Did the friend give you a reason?
If your car is happy towing in fifth I can't see a problem

The problem is towing heavy loads with gear boxes that have a high overdrive ratio.

I can tell you from first hand experience that you can fry the overdrive if you tow a 30 foot boat for 1,800km and use 5th a lot. ;) (obviously not in a Zook).

Having said, that your awesome little trailer wouldn't cause too many issues for your Sierra.

And for those with VVT Jimnys 5th is not overdrive and it is save to use when towing. But again based on experience, you'll only have enough power to use 5th going down hill anyway. :)

No. Overdriven gears are simply any gears that have a higher output speed than input. So with a gear ratio numerically less than 1.

Awesome info guys.
Here is what i have.

Manual Transmission:
Type Five-speed, all synchromesh
Clutch Dry, single disc, diaphragm spring
Gear ratios
1st 3.652
2nd 1.947
3rd 1.423
4th 1.000
5th 0.795
Reverse 3.466

Im assuming that because 5th is less than 1:1 means it has to be on a different shaft?

Im not to worried about it but just good to know.
