So Ive decided to build an offroad trailer for myself. I am using the same plans as last time except I have gone a bit bigger. (7x5 instead of 6x4) I am using 2012 hilux rear leaf springs and a 2 tonne axle and hubs to suit 79 series 5 stud
Still going to put water two 90l tanks under neath, and am going 285x75R16 on the front behind a space case. I have used Kenny sheet metal instead of machans this time and they are less then half the price and I ordered it yesterday and it was ready to pick up this arve. Hopefully as gooder quality as their service. Will pick it up in the morning and get into it again.

It will cart a 4x4 quad. with a roof top tent on a rack and a 3 metre quintrex barra punt on the top. 2x 2o lt jerrycans on the back and a 9kg gas bottle front left and a ally box with a battery front right. It will hold 2 spare tyres on the front in between the front of the box and large space case standing up

Got my sheet metal today they buggered up the front piece by 10mm but promptly made another one so kenny sheet metal seems to be the go.
Got a lot of stuff tacked at the moment and only have a 1/4 of a bottle left so I am trying to tack every thing together till Monday. Don't want to take back a 1/4 full bottle.
Will try and do tool box mounts, tie rails, top of jerry holders and twin spare tyre mounts tommororw.

Did not get much time yesterday but got the tie rails and jerry can holders done and had a play with what Im putting on the aframe. Will be 2 spare tyres across the front and a space case and a stone flector.

Finished tyre rack, space case frame hitch and tail gate and also welded it all up today got burnt plenty.
Go back to work for a week so no progress for a while

Great build!!

only one potential issue I can see.....

Welding across the top of the drawbar is widely frowned upon. It promotes cracking of the drawbar where it meets the trailer body. But I see you have added a girdle underneath, so you may not have any issues.

That is something they checked on mine when I had the compliance check and they would have failed it if it was welded across the drawbar.

Not real sure on weight. If the trailer was say 300kgs and it holds 40lts of fuel and 180lts of water and the quad weighs 300kgs plus 2 spares, box, roof tent etc I will be over a ton. I am fitting electric brakes. Im towing it behind a Di turbo cruiser ute.
As for the welded draw bar. cant see it being a problem, Not only is it not high carbon steel or in the adr trailer design rules
( http://www.alltrailerspares.com.au/Asse ... 0RULES.pdf ) Its only a low amp weld to stop the ingress of shit in between the two surfaces its welded under neath on the longitudinal length of the draw bar. yea maybe if it was a truck / dog chassis. This is number 3 of the same build and the other 2 constantly run up and down the cape, not worried at all.

Im not the biggest fan of treg hitches as you almost need a spare tongue to use or they are a pain if you have other trailers to tow. I have made the mount plate large enough to fit one if I want down the track. Finished off the fab side of things and have etch primed and top coated the trailer in Jotun Hardtop Ultra epoxy. Have started tinkering with the fit out but I will leave it till tommorow for it to cure before I go further. Have had a play with mounting the pressure pump and compartment doors.

Got a bit more done. still got more plumbing and tail lights to do. Kylie got her tooth brush holder. still got to fit the mirror but. Axle and brake assembly would be nice if that would turn up.

Thanks Joel I have made them but its only good for people who want a custom trailer otherwise its unviable. This trailer is build number 3 of the same plans
I have just added up all my invoices for the bill. you will be surprised. Don't no how mobs like GIC do off road campers for $6000 bucks got me beat. The parts alone were $4464 and still going If I added the Items I had it would be $5230 plus Im already at 60 hrs and still have about 12hrs work left.

Off topic....
A lot of the cheaper offroad trailers are made in china.
I know a guy that buys good quality offroad trailers here, ships them to china to get copied etc. then sells the copies here on ebay.
My sister bought one from another supplier. it was made in china too. was a piece of shit.
The quality is fairly poor, welding looks like it was done by a drunk monkey tending to his flock of pigeons.

Bit of pinchweld to seal the tap and toothbrush area from grot and dust etc.

Finally finished and registered it. Still have some odds and ends to do but nearly there and it fits under my roller door so thats a bonus. Tared at 780kg 8O thats without the roof tent and tanks full.

Gave it a try on the weekend. Bunnings sell $3 basins that fit neat in a 9kg gas bottle holder and I made up a bench for the stove etc. Worked out nice.

Yeah mate thats my banshee. Once you ride one you will want one they are addictive. I do believe 450 4 strokes like a ltz pull quicker through the turns but I just love the insane wheel spin everywhere and because the yanks love them you can bling them up with aftermarket parts fairly cheap.

In regards to your hitch, I used a mchitch as I am also not a fan of tregs
Have a look at the website they are pretty awesome and have a much smoother system then a ball
