With pet monkey #2 on the way it's time to start thinking of how to expand our set up without over capitalising.
(I also need a moto trailer) and we currently use an oztent that's easily big enough for 4 of us.

As a family 99% of the places we go are 2wd accessible, but 4wd needed if wet.

Option 1 - trade the GV on a Pajero/prado. ~ $10k upfront
Option 2 - Convert a trailer to have a kitchenette and some storage. Be able to put the moto down one side. $2k conservative. $5k If I don't shop around. Will also make packing easier.
Option 3 - find a caravan that's light enough the GV tows it, and moto can go on drawbar. (Not holding my hopes for that)
No idea of cost. ~5-7k ?

Would appreciate idea's or suggestions of what people have tried.

Unless you want to take the bike camping I would get a seperate bike trailer and camper.
I have a Mars camper which so far is a good thing, strong, comfortable and a well made hard floor camper.

If you don't option it up they are $7000. Only thing I could fault is it leaks a little dust when in bulldust but then everything does.
Has parallel wheelbearings and all welded construction.

A couple of our trips each year are using family camping and getting a couple of sneaky rides in with the boys.

My wife's body can't handle extended off-road/corrugations so unless there is a super compelling reason to get a camper over a van. To me just seems easier to set up and less hassle?

I'm just trying to follow your logic here.

For option 1, I'm assuming the vehicle upgrade is so you can tow a bigger van with the bike on it?
In which case you have vehicle and van/trailer costs. Big investment.

Option 2 sounds like the most affordable and practical.
You can easily fit your bike on one side of a normal box trailer and make a good slide-on kitchen/storage box for the remaining space in the trailer. Obviously using your current oztent and putting clothes/delicate items in the back of the GV.

Option 3 is half achievable in my view. I have friends that tow a nice little caravan with a NGV (if there is such a thing as a nice caravan ;) ). Apparently it tows well, but with the water tanks full they know it's there.
I couldn't imagine you'd get a bike on there as well, I just don't know if the GV is up for it.
Perhaps if you pick up a really light camper like Zooks4life has got you could get your bike on top of it????

We only just won't fit into the GV (I mostly use hiking gear)

A big car we will fit in easily. No need for a trailer apart from the moto.

Option 2 is looking very feasible. $700 for a 6x4 $700 for a 'toolbox' another $500 or so for awning and some nicetys like fold out table and awning/lights. Should be able to halve that shopping around.

Option 3 is out for weight considerations.

I haven't been able to find zook4lifea trailer on my phone.

Awesome trailer. Thanks.

@600kg though it means I'll need to leave the bike at home. Once I add in 150kg bike/gear/fuel and another couple hundred of food/gear/etc we are just shy of a tonne which then will start creeping into making driving tedious.

I think I'm going to trial a 6x4 with a few tubs. If that works then make it fancy. If not a bigger car.

Have a look at the Poly style trailers, similar material to cutting boards, tough and very light, look on Google may suit your needs.
